Deniable Attraction

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Everything of mine belongs to my parents. Even my allowance, dammit. But Naruto doesn't belong to them, either.

Notes: Pretend that Sasuke never left. It makes things so much easier. Really short, not that great. Written while defying jet lag. Let's just blame my lack of writing skills on that, shall we?

Naruto loved Sasuke. And he would never deny it.

Sasuke loved Naruto. And he would always deny it.

Only one thing really mattered to Naruto: Sasuke.

Only two things were supposed to really matter to Sasuke. The death of Itachi and the rebuilding of the Uchiha clan. But Naruto had the oddest way of mattering more.

Love was the most important factor in Naruto's strength. It was the desire to protect his loved ones that gave purpose to his goal of becoming stronger.

Love was a weakness to Sasuke. Love was messy, and it unnecessarily complicated things. Just like Naruto, who was the only who could provoke the unwanted emotion. Love was Naruto. Love was an obstacle. Naruto was an obstacle. Obstacles had to be eliminated. He ignored the promise of a broken heart. How could his heart be broken, if he had no heart?

"Do you love me?"

It was so easy to lie. So easy to deny the attraction, the passion, the love, he had felt for Naruto since what seemed like the beginning of time. So easy to say "No."

What wasn't as easy was ignoring the pain that flickered across Naruto's face. What wasn't as easy was denying the fact that he was the one who had dulled Naruto's vibrant cerulean eyes.

Time passed and healed some wounds and denied others. Sasuke had fulfilled his two goals. Itachi was dead, his family's deaths avenged. Then he had dutifully married some suitable girl, who now carried the Uchiha heir. He had trouble remembering her name. He had much less trouble remembering everything Naruto had done for the past three years, ever since he had asked Sasuke if he loved him. Naruto had married Hinata less than three months after becoming a Jounin. They were now expecting twins. Sasuke thought they seemed happy enough, but he often imagined that Naruto's eyes were brighter when they were younger.

Naruto smiled bitterly as his wife read their two daughters a story about a prince who gave up everything to be with his commoner love, because he "just couldn't deny his love for her." Undeniable attraction was just as farfetched as the faery tales there were in.

Sasuke denied all emotions. Especially love. Especially for Naruto.

So that's that. Whaddya think? If you think this fic has earned a review, good or bad, please review. I think that's all. That's three "think"s. Well, four now.
