Faded Fairytales

The moment they first laid eyes on each other, they knew it. They knew they loved each other and that they were meant to be. But they never said those three precious words out loud because they knew it was only a matter of time before they had to say goodbye and part their seperate ways. They wish it weren't that way but life's a bitch and there was absolutely nothing they could do about it.
Laying together, chest to chest, heart to heart, John and Randy stare longingly at each other's eyes. For a moment everything is forgotten. Forgotten is the fact that they are both married. Forgotten is the fact that they are both men and what they are doing is considered a sin in society and if ever their secret were to come out their reputation, career, everything that they had struggled and strived for would crumple to pieces. They knew that they couldn't be together. But they can't help but imagine how their life would have been different if they were.

So they dream of their made-up fairytale instead. The one in which they were happy and didn't have to worry about their reputation. The one where everyone accepted them for who they were. Everything was perfect. Everything made sense. But you know what they say about fairytales. They end when they do for a reason. They are just dreams that never come true. Reality sinks in and they just have to accept it, they could never happen, however bad they wanted it. Now all they have are a few nights in a year at cheap motels laying together, chest to chest, heart to heart, staring at each other imagining the what if's and fantasizing about their Faded Fairytale.
"You think we'll have our happily ever after, Ran?" he asks.
"Maybe...Someday..." he answers, uncertain.
"Do you really believe that?" he asks hopefully.
"Yeah!" he answers smiling "I do."
In another life I would be your girl, we keep all our promises, be us against the world.
In another life I would make you stay,
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away...
