Mosquitoes, houseflies and other bugs, flying around the ceiling of Heero's apartment found it difficult to secure the any landing space for long. This was because he was using them as target practice with a blowgun. So far he had gotten ten of the twenty that were up there. He had even gotten a brown recluse which had made a small web in one corner of the bedroom.
He decidedly gave up though, as his heart wasn't into it.
His heart… was elsewhere, in two places, really.
And the two halves were arguing with each other.
One half was siding with his mentor, Odin, about never getting involved with anyone while on mission, especially when they may become a target.
The other was arguing about how he'd never know love until everything was over. But he may not survive the mission, so it would be better to actually have some interaction.
Heero rolled over onto his side, curling up ever so slightly.
He wanted to be held.
But not just by anyone, although it was starting to get to that point.
He wanted to be held by HER.
Those soft blue eyes and dirty blonde hair haunted him.
That he had to kill her because she saw him was consequence now.
He had now tried twice.
And twice he had failed.
He kept telling himself that it was because of how prominent of a figure she was to the world, but there was something else. He couldn't quite place what it was, but he thought it may have to do with finding things out his location, for instance but for keeping her cool when dealing with strained situations. It almost seemed as if she kept daring him to carry through with his threat.
I'll kill you.
The words still rang in his head.
'Will I kill her, though?' he mused, curling up tighter, 'Or will that be the one mission I'll never complete?'
Overall, she seemed the ideal person for him. Minus being a pacifist and a future world leader, that is. She had resources merely at the tip of her fingers, or just about. She was calm, straightforward, and as mentioned before, determined to see things through. Rather unlike his current roommate at the new school. Which Relena had already dropped by at.
"Oi! Heero!" The person in question called out, "Come on, or we'll be late back to class!"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."
"You haven't forgotten about our little challenge, have you?"
"No." Heero let a small smile play across his lips.
"Oi. Heero. Something wrong?"
"Why?"
"You seem… distant."
"I've been thinking of my mission. That's all."
"Uh-huh. Which one?"
"What makes you think I have more than one?"
"The way miss Darlian asked if you were going to kill her."
"Ah." He paused, "No, I don't have any other missions."
"What, so that was just a whim that you said you'd kill her?"
"Duo, drop it."
"Well if it's that you can't do it because you may like her, I'd be a much better match for you anyway."
They entered the classroom with Heero glaring at the back of Duo's head. That night, after blowing up OZ's offshore base, Heero lay on his bed, staring up at his 'pins.'
'Not being with her… is killing me… how ironic.'
