Lily's friend, Catherine, went home, leaving Lily and Susan alone.

They walked around the neighborhood. Evening light, bloomy air. Children laughing.

Lily and Susan barely knew each other, Susan was Catherine's friend.

"You don't go to school here, right?" Susan asked.

Their footsteps echoed in the narrow alley.

"No, I go to a boarding school in Scotland."

"When is your summer break over?"

"Three weeks…"

"Same here."

They came to a small park, the tree cast long shadows.

Lily pulled off her hair-ribbon.

"You have pretty hair."

"Thank you."

Last sunbeams.

Susan twirled a strand of Lily's hair.
