"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world…"

Gordon absolutely dreaded snow. He dreaded even the thought of it. It got everywhere and left a large mess after it melted. It helped that he had the waterproof HEV Suit this time around, but for Alyx, not so much. For months on end they trudged through the permanently frozen wasteland searching for any sign of the Borealis. He thought to himself, How can a ship the length of a football field be so hard to find? They had scanners that could detect metal in large quantities, but so far, they only found Gordon's massive arsenal.
"There were rumors that the Borealis was located near the South Pole. I mean, you can't take rumors for what they are, but maybe that's the place.."
Alyx thought aloud most of the time, and that turned out to be her greatest fault. It was pretty easy to tell what she was thinking, and if a Combine informant was within 50 feet of her, they would know the entire Resistance's next move.
"Alright, since the Combine aren't that smart, they most likely set up walls and outposts near the ship. Gordon, could you keep a lookout for them?"
He nodded. It was true that the Combine didn't exactly think about keeping their operations a secret. In some way or another, the Resistance was going to prevail.

This sucked big time. Chell had been thrown out of her own home, stripped of her most prized possession, the ASHPD, and now she had no place to go. The only companion she had was of course, the 'Companion' Cube. It was of no use to her. That heart was cute at first, but now it was only a minor detail. It was just another thing to carry along. She walked towards the sun. She figured that the time was close to the evening (Maybe five-ish?) because the sun was about midway between the highest point and the horizon. West, she decided. Along her journey, she didn't see any signs of life. The only sound that could be heard was the cawing of crows and the chirp of crickets. That was it until the sun touched the horizon. In the distance, Chell could hear the repetitive thumpa-thumpa of a helicopter getting louder and eventually softer as it got farther away. It sounded different than she remembered- almost alien. Come to think of it, how much has happened since I've been gone? She tried to recall the events before her initial testing, just after Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. Or was it? She didn't remember seeing anything that moved besides the countless robots that roamed in the miles deep and long labyrinth that was Aperture Science.
