Author's Notes:
Just a little one-shot that I wrote a bit back. So, here it is. As you have noticed with my last two-shot and this one shot, I am kind of more so writing about post canon now. I enjoy it.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything except the plot.
Now
Yugi looks around at the cemetery that he now stands in. True, this isn't the final resting place of his other half, but it was the only place he could gather everyone, for some unknown reason some of the people refused to meet anywhere else.
The boy looks around for a moment then sighs. It has been four years since everything happened, as he is currently a senior at Domino University. He has aged in other ways too. Looking at the man, you would barely recognize the old Yugi. This male has narrow amethyst eyes, black hair that sticks up like a starfish with amethyst tips. His golden bangs frame his face, while three streak up into his hair like lightening. He is about two inches taller, though he has gained much more muscle mass. The only thing that is really the same is the fact that this one is still clad in leather.
"Hey Yug'!" A person calls out, and Yugi turns around to see an adult with shaggy dirty blond hair and honey eyes staring at him. This person is about 5'11" and is much more muscled then Yugi, and the old Joey, yet he is still thin. This new Joey is clad in a green t-shirt and faded blue jeans. "Damn Yug' you look like a steroid injected Pharaoh." Joey comments and Yugi chuckles in the deep baritone way that Yami did. "You even sound like him," Joey continues and Yugi chuckles.
"Destiny has a strange way of conversing with us, doesn't it?" Yugi asks looking over at Joey. Joey's eye twitches, trying to understand whether or not this is their old friend Yugi.
"Hi guys!" A perky voice calls and the turn to see Anzu walking up towards them. Though this Anzu is different, her hair is now shoulder length, her eyelashes longer, darker and fuller. Her lips are red, and her pale skin seems to have gained a slight tan. Long appendages hang out of black short shorts and an aqua tank top adorns her upper body. Of course, her female features have become more prominent, leaving the other guys gawking at the beauty before them.
"Hello Anzu," Yugi greets formally. Anzu stops and stares at her old friend. Her cheeks start to heat up and she has to look away so that the blush isn't seen.
"Wow, is that really you Yugi?" Anzu asks cautiously, staring at her best friend with her lips open just a bit in shock.
Yugi chuckles for the third time that night causing Anzu to blush even more. "Why yes it is Anzu." Yugi says, and heavy footfalls are heard off in the distance, breaking up what could have turned into a romantic moment.
"Bakura or Honda...take a guess." Joey offers playfully. It's good to know that he hasn't changed over the years.
"Honda... I haven't seen Bakura since our second year of college," Yugi votes a small smirk on his face.
"Bakura...only he could be that clumsy," Anzu says, and lo and behold it is Honda who stumbles out of the bushes looking positively mortified.
"Why the hell would you chose a cemetery? Yugi?" Honda comments, looking dead at Yugi as though trying to decipher if this is Yugi or Yami.
Honda, unlike the others hasn't really changed over the years, actually, for the most part he looks the exact same, the only difference being slightly sharper features.
"It wasn't my request, it was Bakura's. That was the only way he would come." Yugi explains and the others look slightly mortified.
"And why pray tell would you allow him to come with conditions like that?" Honda asks, looking dead at Yugi.
"Because, I need to kill two birds with one stone, and this is the only way to do so." Comes a familiar voice from above.
Yugi's eyes widen. That person sounds too much like Yami Bakura for there to be a difference. However, there is a difference in the voice. The British accent is more pronounced and it still is lighter, signaling that it must be Bakura.
"Bakura, where are you?" Yugi asks and a low chuckle is heard from a nearby tree.
"The same place I've been since you came here Yugi. I had some extra time so I decided I would come by earlier." Bakura replies, not moving from his spot.
"And why did you want to come to a cemetery?" Honda asks, glaring in the general area of the voice.
Another soft chuckle escapes followed by a depressed sigh. "How rude of me, Yugi, Joey, Anzu, Honda, meet my father, or the remains of him." The boy says, and Yugi looks down at the headstone Anzu had taken a seat on and gasps.
It read: Here lies Bakura Akio, brother, husband, and father. January 16, 1967 - July 22, 2004
"This is the two year anniversary?" Yugi asks as Anzu hops off of the tombstone, absolutely mortified. Why wasn't he in a family cemetery, like where you are supposed to be buried in Japan?
"Yeah, which explains why you haven't seen me since then..." Bakura replies in a depressed tone. Yugi is silent for a moment before the sound of a motorcycle engine being cut off, and then calm footfalls on the ground.
The person who next walks into the little area is deeply tanned. He has sandy blond hear that falls to his shoulder and bright lavender eyes that spark with mischief. The male is somewhere between a small and medium build, though more so on the small side because he remains thin. He is about 5'11" He currently wears black jeans, a purple tank top with a black sleeveless jacket atop. He also wears black biker boots that come up halfway to his knee. A small smirk graces his lips.
"Well, someone overdid the biker outfit." Bakura says slight amusement detectable in his voice.
"And someone is following in the footsteps of their predecessors," Marik counters, though the smile never leaves his face.
"Okay, so why the hell did you decide to meet in a graveyard?" Another voice calls as Seto saunters into the clearing.
"I wanted to, and that is all the information you need to know," Comes the sharp voice of Bakura.
"I should have suspected this, Ryou." Seto deadpans and the group gapes.
"Since when were you two on a first name basis?" Joey asks looking between the two and Seto simply shrugs, it's his life and his secret, and they had no right to know unless
"By the way Seto here is the work," Ryou says, tossing a black satchel at the man. Seto easily catches it and extracts a series of drawings. He looks over them for a moment before nodding and throwing the satchel back up to where the bag came from. All that is seen is a pale hand that quickly reaches out and snatches it.
"So, Yugi, have you thought about my job offer. You would do excellent in advertising and in video game testing." Kaiba continues and Yugi nods.
"Thanks Kaiba, but I really want to stay at the Game Shop, it just runs within the family. Ya know?" Yugi rejects diplomatically. Kaiba nods at him though he does not look satisfied, maybe he should just buy the gameshop.
"Well no offense Yugi but why did you call us all here?" Anzu asks looking over at her longtime friend.
"I just wanted to see how everyone was doing after all these years. I kind of wanted to get the gang back together." Yugi confesses.
"You do realize that neither Ryou nor I were initially part of that group thing you guys had, right?" Marik informs, his eyes glancing up to the tree where Ryou was, his only response a chortle.
"Yes you guys were!" Yugi defends boldly. His eyes slightly wide and looking hurt from that accusation.
"No, not really, and honestly this is a waste of my time. I have five songs that need to be translated by tomorrow." Ryou whines and the others look up to the tree.
"You know Bakura, this conversation would be a lot simpler if we could actually see who we are talking to." Honda deadpans, and there is a slight rustling in the leaves. After another moment or so a figure drops out from the trees.
The figure that has just appeared is about 5'9", and he is extremely pale and thin, though not to the point of looking unhealthy. He has long white hair that reaches three-quarters way down his back, and his bangs land halfway down his eyes. Behind the pure tresses are bright emerald eyes that seem to have only narrowed slightly over the years. The boy wears a slight smirk on his lips, and is clothed in a black muscle shirt (though he doesn't have muscles to show it looks nice on him) gray skinny jeans and black combat boots. Above that he wears the black trench coat that his yami was famous for. His face, though older is not as sharp as either Yugi's or his yami's, but it has definitely lost the baby fat it once held.
"Happy, now can I go back into the tree?" Ryou asks boredly, Marik and Seto chuckle at this.
"You don't look a day over 19, what's with you and Kaiba refusing to age?" Joey asks and Ryou chuckles at this.
"I decided I didn't want to..." Was Ryou's simple answer, he then turns his attention back to Yugi. "So, let us get on with this reunion, what would be the next part?" He deadpans, and Yugi frowns.
"You're turning into him," Yugi remarks snidely.
"As are you pharaoh." Ryou replies with a simple shrug.
"So, um, guys, we know this is an ancient battle between the two of you, but please, don't forget about us..." Anzu whispers softly and Yugi flashes her a smile, causing her cheeks to heat up.
"Even the queen hasn't changed. So the priest and the mutt are going to follow you and be your new priests. Wow, it's the exact same set up as last time, except a few extra. Oh, and of course, the 'lights' of the original members. But if you must know..." Ryou just stops there, a knowing look in his bright green eyes.
"Ryou, this is not the time!" Marik hisses softly, and the emerald orbs flicker over to meet lavender ones. A silent agreement is made and Ryou sighs.
"I really don't want to waste my life fighting you," Ryou whispers softly but then shrugs. "So, why are we here?" He asks immediately afterwards as though the moment before meant nothing.
"I just wanted to see what's up." Yugi responds monotonously.
"I'm leaving," Seto deadpans and turns to exit, only to find a hand clamped to his shoulder, not allowing him to leave.
"I will give you five seconds to let go of me, if not, you are going to have your ass handed to you." Seto threatens in a calm voice, not even moving from his spot or turning to look at said person.
"5" Seto starts, nothing happens.
"4" Seto says, his voice devoid of emotion.
"3" The hand on his shoulder tightens its grip.
"2"
"1" Seto chokes out through clenched teeth.
"0" And Seto turns around and throws a punch, only to have it caught by Joey, who stands there and stares at him.
"Look, Yug' went through all of this work to meet up with all of us, so you are gonna sit your ass down and enjoy it." Joey hisses and Seto scoffs, but then turns around.
"Fine, Yugi, I will stay, but Yugi needs to sign the game shop over to me and come work for me." Seto explains disinterestedly.
"Wow, no need to be such an asshole Seto." Ryou counters offhandedly and Seto glares at him.
"I agree with Bakura, that's a low blow," Honda declares. The others nod in unison and Yugi blushes.
"Aw, he looks like the old Yugi!" Anzu exclaims, gripping the boy to her bosom.
Yugi flushes more and looks over to where the bosom lies on his shoulder and blushes. He then looks up and stares into bright azure eyes, noticing the light pink dusting the girl's cheeks, he leans in a bit.
A low whistle breaks the two apart and they turn to look at Bakura, their cheeks a flaming red.
"Honestly, is you are going to waste my time, please don't do it in the way of a sappy romance. May I suggest we all go out somewhere and speak, I've paid my dues, and even if I hadn't, the cemetery is no fun with other people in it, especially without my Ouija board, there is actually nothing interesting here." Ryou deadpans, as Joey just looks at him.
"God, you're as much of an asshole as Seto, possibly your yami." Joey comments and Ryou rolls his eyes.
"There is a fine line difference between being an asshole and telling the truth. I'd like to think I'm walking along it." Ryou explains with a shrug.
"Either way, that idea of leaving and going somewhere to eat does sound appetizing." Marik says, his hand placed on his flat stomach in a show of hunger.
At Burger World
"You know I'm a vegetarian right?" Marik asks, looking dead at Yugi as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"They have salads here," Anzu informs, giving Marik a small smile. In all honesty, it was tough for her at this point in time. She was surrounded by five attractive men and Honda, and her senses were just on fire, even if two and a half of them used to be evil.
"Plus, this place has many memories," Yugi comments, his eyes glancing once around the room. Both Ryou and Marik scoff at this statement however.
"I've never been here in my life." Ryou deadpans and Marik chuckles, causing Ryou to shoot him a glare.
"Not like you're any better," Ryou teases and in those few seconds that their eyes meet electricity passes.
"You remind me of him," Marik continues, and all Ryou does is smirk at that statement before taking his seat, Marik sliding in after him.
"You guys have some gay relationship we need to know about?" Honda asks, and Ryou rolls his eyes.
"Not anymore," Marik replies and there is a collective silence at the table. Seto however seems perfectly calm as if he had already known that.
"I don't see why this surprises anyone; anyone with even a bit of perspective can see the sexual tension between the two." Seto explain and then glowers at Ryou.
"I forgot you learned how to fight." Seto teases and Ryou just glowers at him.
"Okay, changing the subject. What exactly have you guys done with your life?" Yugi asks, brushing off the awkward topic.
"I'm a professional hip hop dancer now. I'm in quite a few music videos now. In fact, sometimes I see Bakura." Anzu comments and Ryou nods in agreement.
"What do you think?" Kaiba asks, with a simple shrug. The others nod in understanding.
"I'm a bodyguard for Industrial Illusions." Joey explains with a smirk sent in Kaiba's direction.
"So you're saying I could easily break in?" Ryou asks with a cock of his head.
Kaiba scoffs. "Trust me, Industrial Illusions has always been easy to infiltrate."
"I know, I've done it before." Ryou responds and the others gape. "Don't look at me like that. I'm pretty sure that neither Anzu, Honda nor Joey was invited to Duelist Kingdom." Ryou continues with an innocent cock of his head.
"Perceptive," Yugi compliments with a smirk.
"Now, since I do believe we are taking turns. Marik, what are you doing with your life?" Ryou asks conversationally.
Marik rolls his eyes and smirks at the man next to him. "I believe that you already know, but for those who don't, I'm studying to become a child psychologist."
At this statement Joey's eyes went wide and he flinched. "I don't think retired psychopaths make good psychologists."
At that statement Marik visibly deflates. "This coming from the bodyguard who was once in a gang and bullied others? How do we know you aren't sneaking money to your groupies or anything?" Ryou asks, casually checking his nails. Jody's eye twitches and Marik looks away, a light blush dusting his cheeks.
"Well then, what are you?" Joey basically sneers, not enjoying the reference to his past.
"Professional artist and musician." Ryou shrugs, a smirk forming on his lips.
Joey scoffs, "Oh yeah, nothing having to do with entrapping our souls in dolls."
"Not the way you put it. But as a child and early teenage years I did enjoy painting all those who I've come across in life. It just proves how well I work with a knife." Ryou chuckles softly at this, and at this moment the waitress brings them all drinks and takes their order, before scurrying back into the kitchen.
"What about you Honda?" Yugi asks conversationally, and the man blushes.
"Well I own a bike shop downtown." Honda explains and suddenly Marik perks up.
"Really, because I was looking up some modifications that I would like to make to my bike and I need to find a place that has them." Marik explains starting to get engaged in a conversation about bike modifications with Honda.
"So, you two sometimes work together?" Yugi asks innocently, though you can see the poorly masked jealousy in the narrow amethyst orbs.
"Sometimes," Anzu answers, and Ryou simply shrugs, his eyes more so focusing on Marik, a slight possessive glint in the emerald orbs.
"Why'd you two break up?" Anzu asks perceptively.
Ryou chuckles softly to himself before turning to look at his two friends, a small smirk plastered on his lips. "More importantly, why haven't you two gotten together yet?"
Silence ensues the trio for a couple of moments before Ryou sighs. "Yugi, don't let her slip away, again." He warns, then gives Anzu a smile that makes her blush.
Another silence encases the conversation, but this time it is more of a calculating silence, in which Anzu studies Yugi and Yugi studies Anzu.
"Jus' kiss already," Joey exclaims, his fingers rapidly moving beneath the table.
The two being spoken to flush. They couldn't just kiss for the first time right out here in the open, with their friends right there. The two haven't even spoken in years, and now it seemed like everyone was urging them on.
Yugi leans in just a bit, his hand consciously rising to hold Anzu's cheek. And within that moment, silence ensues and Yugi closes the gap, his lips pressing firmly against Anzu's softer ones.
Honda claps and Joey whistles, while the other three occupants just stare on with a stoic demeanor.
The kiss goes on for another moment before it comes to an end, in which the two stare at each other for moment before kissing each other again, this time more vigorously.
Ryou lets out a low whistle and smirks over to Marik.
"Someone's gonna be losing their virginity tonight." He teases, though Marik can't help but not take it as a light matter.
"Yeah, I just hope it's not only them." Marik whispers, before leaning in and kissing Ryou on the cheek. For a moment Ryou is silent before leaning in and kissing Marik on the lips.
Of course their kisses are shorter, and the only one that takes notice to it is Seto, who simply scoffs at the duo.
Marik leans in for another kiss, but is only stopped by Ryou, who simply mouths the word 'later' with a wink. Marik smirks at the new forwardness that Ryou is showing and nods.
Anzu and Yugi finally break from their kiss, just as food arrives. That doesn't stop them from doing the stereotypical couple stuff though, like Yugi feeding Anzu fries and the two sharing drinks.
"God, this couple crap is getting on my nerves." Seto exclaims, getting up with his burger in hand. "I'm leaving," he deadpans, shuffling past Yugi and Anzu and exiting the seat. They simply roll their eyes. Seto may seem like he isn't as dramatic as Yami, but he is still overly dramatic.
"Yes!" Joey exclaims, but of course his concentration was on his phone, so when he looks up and notices the others looking at him he flushes.
"Sorry, Mai said she's comin' home tomorrow." Joey informs and the others nod.
"You're dating Mai?" Yugi asks and Joey nods.
"Yep," Joey affirms.
"Who's that?" Marik asks, his eyes roaming over the familiar faces, while trying to place an unfamiliar name to a possible face from his past.
"She's a girl you sent to the Shadow Realm." Yugi explains and Marik nods with a small sigh, he will always regret what he did, do they honestly have to keep reminding him?
A warm hand slips inside his and a warm feeling spreads inside of his chest as he turns to Ryou and flashes him a small smile.
"So, Honda, what happened between you and Miho?" Ryou asks conversationally. Honda blushes, but then looks away.
"She is a model in England." Honda admits, and Ryou gives a good-natured chuckle, causing Honda to glare at him.
"Don't you dare try and seduce her." Honda threatens, and both Ryou and Marik laugh at that statement. Yugi and Anzu flush, understanding why Ryou would find the topic funny and Joey ignores the entire conversation, still texting Mai.
"No worry there. But I am leaving for England in two days. Maybe I'll drop by and say hi." Ryou informs with a sparkling smile. Beneath the table, Marik clenched on to Ryou's arm and looks the man over with large lavender eyes.
Honda scoffs at the teenager, but otherwise says nothing to him about what had just transpired.
The rest of the meal is devoured as the group reminisces on all the crazy and not so crazy people that they have had to save the world from. They spoke over motives as had finally decided that none of them were truly guilty (much to both Ryou and Marik's relief).
Finally the night came to an end and everyone paid their fair share, well, except for Seto, but Ryou easily covered his meal also, and so they set off on their separate ways.
With Anzu and Yugi
"Grandpa, we're home!" Yugi exclaims as he enters into the shop, and Anzu can't help but giggle. The boy still lives with his grandfather, in a way it was pathetic, yet in a way it was also sweet.
An old man with graying, gravity-defying hair hobbles out of the back room, and immediately his dimming amethyst eyes brighten.
"Why hello Anzu, it's been a while hasn't it?" He asks good-naturedly, his eyes quickly scanning over her body and then to their interlocked fingers. A small smile breaks out on his face, showing the ever multiplying wrinkles on his face.
"Yeah, it has," Anzu replies, silently taking a step back as she feels Solomon's critical eye on her.
Yugi also seems to notice this, because he kindly excuses the two and within a moment they are within his room, the door locked.
Unfortunately for Solomon, he barely slept a wink with the sounds of the bed creaking and moans that fill the room.
With Ryou and Marik
"What do you mean you're leaving for England in two days?" Marik demands and Ryou sighs as he pulls the Egyptian into the apartment and slams the door, hastily locking it behind them.
"I need closure," Ryou simply murmurs looking over at Marik. "Plus, my job requires me to continuously move throughout Japan, England, and America, with sometimes added areas." He admits his eyes downcast.
"So, if we start going back out I will never see you." Marik asks, using his thumb to lift Ryou's chin so that the two were facing each other and staring each other dead in the eyes.
"Most likely...unless you come with me," Ryou whispers hopefully and Marik sighs.
"I can't just drop everything and follow you, what about school?" Marik asks, but at this point Ryou has pressed himself fully against the Egyptian, softly mewling into his chest.
"You-you could do online school. Please Marik; don't let me lose you again. Not again. I don't think I have if left in me to lose someone else," the boy murmurs softly, clinging tightly onto Marik, tears now rolling down his cheeks.
"What happened to you? Where is that strong person from a couple moments ago?" Marik asks, but he already knows. He knows Ryou, he knows how the boy put up an impenetrable front after his father died, and he knew the mess beneath it. "Fine, I'll travel with you." Marik concludes and in that moment Ryou jumps up off the male and drags Marik to his bedroom.
"Good, now, remember that statement from earlier." He asks, and Marik frowns, Ryou had tricked him again, he's much more manipulative then people give him credit for. Marik though does nod as he remembers the conversation and what Ryou is leading him towards.
"Good, then let's do it." Ryou mutters softly.
The neighbors were pissed...
Author's Notes:
Guess what, I wrote for couples that I don't fully support. How cool is that?
Well, I have read that reviews are love, and I love love.
