Moonstruck

His eyes were draw skyward as he walked out the door, his shirt un-tucked and his feet bare. The sand pressed between his toes as he made his way down to the edge of the water, the crashing waves beating against the shore. His breath hitched, heart quickened, and something changed within him as he looked to the sky, the moon above sparkling endlessly. The glowing orb seemed to draw him closer, beg for more - it yearned for him to reach up and grab it. There was even a moment when he almost did. He did not understand it, the feeling within him - he did not know why there was such an urge.

Remus had tried to explain. They had not had a lot of time, but he did his best. He tried to explain the urges, the bloodlust, the strange cravings that he might feel during this time. He did his best to help Bill understand how to cope, how to deal with these changes. But learning the ins and outs of being a - what ever he was - was different from living it, from feeling it. His family had tried to be supportive, and of course no one mentioned anything when the first full moon came around and bill had demanded rare meat, and had even licked the plate clean. But he could see the way his mother looked at him, the sadness that filled her eyes at his change.

Suddenly movement behind him almost made him turn; his instincts pulling him to fight - but he stayed still, waiting. He clenched his jaw as he felt her hands on his skin. They were soft against his calloused body; gentle, comforting, warm, safe.

"Everything is going to be okay," she whispered softly, her accent still supporting the french curves and difficulties.
"You can't know that?" He almost growled in reply. She pressed her lips to his shoulder, then turned him to face her - ripping his gaze from the sky. Her silvery hair shimmered down her back as she brushed it aside, allowing herself a better look at him. With a smile she slowly leaned up and kissed every scar of his face.
"As long as we're together," she whispered, "I know it will be."

The moon still called for him, but he had something else, another light, another essence calling to him and he could not look away. Bill stared at her, unsure how he managed to capture such a beauty and make it his.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I know," she answered, but as he held her he felt something within him. Somehow he feared she did not understand how much her staying meant to him. Pulling her closer to him he whispered, "thank you."

They stood under the moon until the chill of the wind finally moved them inside, but still they stayed wrapped in each others arms until the sun resurfaced. Bill knew that the moon would always have a control on him, and eventually the blood became a normal thing - and finally one day he understood why Fleur was so understanding, even when he thought of himself as a monster. She had grown up with a creature within her, one that made her irresistible to men and made women despise her. She knew what it was like to feel animal urges, to feel like you no longer belong in your own skin. She truly understood what he was, because it is what she was too.
