Summary: One little whistle couldn't hurt. Spoiler up to Chapter 154.
Notes: Fucking abstract flashbacks.
Trapped between a fire guardian and a watery hard place --- he should have known. The journey began this way, and(he can't stay but, oh, if he leaves) it is a fitting end as well. Syaoran's eyes are wide wide wide, brown reflecting the color of flame and death and his own lips purse beyond his accord. He should just let it end here. He should.
He looks at the whole group, the whole chessboard as far as he can see, and suddenly, he doesn't feel very selfish anymore. He breathes in (his last breath of freedom) and a small 'pyu' is made. He looks around and feels cheated that no one noticed, transfixed by death as it were. Another breath that he can taste the library's protective magic on (a bit like written memory but more like paper and ink) and he whistles again, with purpose. The spell itself is easy, a quick two-four pace over in a few seconds. He wonders at how--- but no, eyes are on him now, and he can't think of it.
Mokona gleefully transports them, and in Syaoran's wide brown eyes (your face will get stuck that way if you're not careful) he sees a reflection of his face: calm betrayal.
He doesn't look at Kurogane. He doesn't admit it's because he can't.
(This is where the dream must end.)
