Footsteps echoed down the deserted hallway, resounding within the metallic walls for seconds on end. A lonesome figure stumbled onward through the corridor, his head bowed as he made his way forward. His face was unreadable, a mix of emotions that troubled him right to the core. His right hand was gently rubbing his left shoulder, trying to sooth the blazing flames of pain which anguished him so. His footsteps became heavier as he reached the end of the hallway, his free hand gently keying in his ID code for the elevator to arrive. The screen on the keypad flashed a message of recognition, reading 'Accepted user: Genesis Rhapsodos', followed by a quiet beep.

Genesis Rhapsodos took shallow breaths, his breathing rushed as his body tried hard to suppress the effects of the gash that ripped through his left shoulder. He shuddered, wincing in pain as another burst of displeasure came from the wound. Keeping his right hand on his shoulder was all he could do as he waited for the lift to arrive, his eyes squeezed shut as he tried to cope with the intense aching. Like a thousand needles, a rush of pain shot through his shoulder blade, just below the gash. Crying out, Genesis' eyes widened as pain stabbed again, causing his knees to give way.

The SOLDIER collapsed to the ground, crashing onto his side as the pain almost consumed his entire body. Genesis shuddered in agony as his left shoulder blade elongated, breaking through the seams of his red leather coat. He looked away out of pure fear, feeling something erupting out from his skin amongst all the pain that was consuming him. The redhead let out a yell as one final rush of agony pushed at his back, then all seemed to fade away as Genesis dared to look at what was happening. Out from his bandaged left shoulder was a jet black wing that lay spread out against the metal grating on the floor, a few stray feathers scattered around it. He caught sight of the harsh metal floor he had collapsed on, seeing a few trickles of blood surrounding his shoulder. With a sharp intake of breath, the redhead just looked away, burying his head into his hands. Quiet sobs shook his body as a dull ache formed around his shoulder blade, making his body reflexes curl his body inwards, bringing his knees to his chest.

What's…what's happening…to me?

Genesis felt the tears streaming down his face as he just cried, unable to cope with what he was becoming. "Was this…was this what he meant…?" Genesis whispered, barely able to speak through his choked up voice and immobilising pain. Project G…failure…

monster.

A/N: Oh, beware! This is like, some kind of long drabble that I wrote when looking for another proper one shot to write. It's just completely angst-ridden, isn't it!? O.o' It's basically when Genesis first discovers his wing, and it was inspired by this here -- http :// gackt-art. deviantart . com/art/ Birth-of-a-Wing-79315910 - without the spaces, of course.

…and listening to some music too. Heh. Like 'Pieces' by Red and 'Savin' Me' by Nickleback.

Anyway. I know I've written stories where he's had his wing much earlier, but this taking it on another perspective that it happened just after he was hurt. Whatever. XD;

Hope this counts towards them one shots. Hah. Oh, and the 'he' in Gen's sentence refers to Hollander. That idiot of a scientist. -.-
