Two young boys, no more than 11 and 12 sat outside on the green hill. Their short blond hair being tasseled by wind. The younger brother looked up at the older, tears threatening to drip down his face. "Brother? Remember last year? When we made mom that big breakfast and the kitchen was a mess?" he asked softly. "Mom laughed and said it was the best mothers day ever." The tears dripped down his face slowly. "Yeah Al. I remember." Ed said quietly looking at the ground below them. "What are we going to do now brother?" Al asked. Ed pulled his knees to his chest and pat his little brothers head softly. "Shes gone Al. There's nothing we can do for her." Al stood quickly and ran off.
Not far off in a small home a woman lay curled up in her bed. Bloody tissues lay around her as she sobs quietly. Her husband sits beside her, his large hand stroking her hair of black braids. His efforts to calm her ineffective to heal her pain. "It wasn't your fault Izumi." he'd say and she'd reply, "I killed him! Twice!" He wanted to do anything to change her mind but he knew no matter what he said she'd always continue to think she killed their son before he was born. She coughed again and blood dripped down her cheek, an effect from trying to bring him back to life with alchemy and the forbidden human transmutation.
When Ed found Alphonse he was down by the river picking flowers. He watched the younger boy as he took half of them and laid them in a sadly drawn transmutation circle and attempted to make them into something but only succeeded in scattering them. He went over slowly. "Need some help Al?" he asked to which the boy gave a small nod as he gathered back up the flowers. Ed redrew the circle and helped his brother make a ring of flowers. "So now what?" Ed questioned as his brother took the ring and placed it carefully into the water. "The river will take it to Resembool for mother." he said receiving a small smile from Ed. "And what about these?" he asked Al as he picked up the other flowers. "Those are for teacher..." Al said looking down nervous about what Ed would say but then feeling a pat on the head he looked up at his brother. "That's a nice idea Alphonse." he said handing the plants back to al. Ed pulled out some scrap paper from his pocket and finding some small flowers and leaves he transmuted a floral bookmark. Al smiled brightly. "Come on brother!" he said running back towards Izumis.
"Hey Sig." They said as they ran in and looked at the muscular man who had left his wife to sleep while he cleaned. "Where is teacher at?" Al asked as Sig pointed to the room. The boys took off to Izumi and Sigs bedroom. Izumi woke quickly hearing the door open. She sat up and saw two pairs of golden eyes looking at her. "Edward, Alphonse, what are you boys doing in here?" She asked. Ed tensed up slightly fearing being tossed across the room but relaxed remembering the gifts and both boys held out theirs to her. She looked at the gifts in their hands confused and looked up at them. "There for you." Al said smiling as they laid them in her lap. A soft smile graced her face. "Thank you boys." She said as she was unexpectedly hugged by both. Her smile grew slightly and she hugged them back. "Happy Mothers Day teacher!" They said and ran off to their room to study.
