And I'm Alone
Synopsis: Roger is bored so he reflects on how Mark left him, and he learns a valuable lesson.
Roger was going to die. Of boredom at least if he didn't get out of the loft soon. Ever since Mark had left to live with his new wife Maureen, he was always bored.
So what was so great about Mark? He asked himself. Well he kept you entertained for one thing. And now you're talking to your self Davis. Great job. Actually, it was better than boredom. Man, he needed to get a grip. It was kind of like when he went through his recluse phase. He didn't leave the house anymore. At least then Mark had been around. Mark was always around. Well not anymore.
This wasn't working and he knew it. So he decided to pick up the phone and call Mimi. It had actually been a long time since he'd talked to her. Those were painful memories. But in his boredom he couldn't help it.
They had been engaged for about four months when he'd found out. Mimi was pregnant. True, the child was his, but he was in no way ready to be a father. So he had dumped her. They hadn't spoken since, and that was six months ago. So maybe he wouldn't call Mimi.
Damn, this was all Mark's fault. If he hadn't gotten married and left him alone, then he wouldn't have to think about how he'd hurt Mimi.
Mark, he sighed, every thing revolved around Mark. He had been Roger's only family since his Dad had died. Mark was there to comfort him when his mom had run off. And he alone knew that was the reason Roger slept with so many women and couldn't handle commitment. Damn you Mark. But no, he loved Mark, a friendly man kind of love, but love nonetheless. So he'd call Mark.
"Hey you've reached the Cohens",came Maureen's perky and loud voice on the answering machine. "In case you didn't know that's me the fabulous Maureen and my pookie bear Mark. Leave a message after the beep thing and we'll call you back!"
"Hey Mark, hey Maureen. This is Roger duh. Um- Mark could you call me back? I- well I- crap um."
"Hi Rog." screeched Maureen, picking up the phone.
Roger winced. "Hey ReRe" he said using his new nickname for her. "Can I talk to Mark?"
"Um" she said, "he's busy right now. But he'll call you back in about twenty minutes. So bye!"
She hung up and Roger grinned. He always knew Mark had it in him. Well technically he had it in Maureen. Frankly a lot had changed about Mark in the year he'd been married. He didn't film nearly as much. It wasn't that he was neglecting his art, just setting it aside for a while for something more important.
Apparently Roger had been thinking about this for a while, because a minute later the phone rang. He decided to screen it just to annoy Mark.
"Speeeaaak!" went the machine. Then Mark started talking.
"Roger, change that machine message, and pick up your phone. You can't call and interrupt great sex and then not answer when I call you back. So pick up the damn phone! I know you're sitting right there on the table doing this to annoy me. Roger I-"
"Hey Mark" Roger said picking up the phone. Even though he was married and gone, Mark still knew him best. And Roger knew that he'd always be there for him. He might just have to wait.
