A/N: Hello, dear readers! This is for the Marauders' Era Characters Competition... so please, read and review!
Just to clear things up, the first half is their relationship in general, and the second half is them actually hooking up.
I apologize in advance for any typos! Please, enjoy. :)
You tell yourself that he's lying. That he's faking it. That he's putting on a show.
You tell yourself that he's wrong. That you don't feel anything. That you're not meant to be.
You tell yourself that being so harsh, telling him to leave, being a bitch is all right, because it's for his own good. For your own good.
You sneer at him, and leer at him, and glare at him, and stare at him, but he doesn't leave.
On the contrary, it just spurs him on.
You wonder why he's doing this. In the end, you're going to get hurt, because you know that this type of love doesn't last. There's a reason that your parents are divorced, that the boyfriend that you had loved left you.
Who's to say that James Potter isn't going to do the same?
So, you dance away any time he comes closer, making sure that there is still an infallible gap between the two of you. You twiddle your thumbs on the other side, watching him trying to figure out a way that he can finally reach you, and internally, you crow in victory, because you know that will never happen.
You dismiss the sadness you feel at that fact, repeating the mantra "It's for your own good" inside your head.
But this is James Potter, and you are Lily Evans, and he doesn't give up easy. He tries everything, only to end in failure.
You smirk at him from your side, and you see him growl in annoyance.
He's never going to get over that gap. Of that, you're sure.
It's a sunny day, and you're sipping lemonade and doing your Arithmancy homework, when, suddenly, there's a shadow looming over you. Startled, you look up, and you're both shocked and dismayed to find a brilliant pair of hazel eyes staring back at you, narrowed in defiance.
"I've crossed your gap, Lily. You can't hide or run anymore," he says simply, and you stare and stare and stare, because what else can you do? He's right, and you both know it. Over this year, he had slowly but surely wormed his way into your existence, like an annoying mosquito that wouldn't leave you alone. Pretty soon, you started to get used to that presence, and when it left...when it left, you realized that you had missed it.
The bastard had planned all of this, you realize with a start.
He took your carefully constructed plan and burned it to the ground.
He crossed your uncrossable gap.
"I don't love you, James. Stop flattering yourself," you reply, using the leering tone you are infamous for. Instead of leaving– though, by now, you don't really expect him to– he suddenly sits down and pulls your face closer to his, and he kisses you.
He has the audacity to kiss you, and you're surprised to find that you don't pull away.
It's bliss, you realize, and just when you're wondering how he got so damn good at kissing, he pulls away. An eyebrow is raised and a smirk is tugging at the corner of his mouth, a cocky air surrounding him.
"I think you already do, love."
You, of course, are in shock, because how did this happen? How did you fall in love without realizing?
How did you do that when you promised yourself you wouldn't ever fall in love again?
At that moment, you remember a saying that your mother loves, a Muggle quote that she always says, a quote that you'd always scoff at- love like you've never been hurt.
Only now do you realize what it truly means.
Sooooo? How is it? I'd love to get some feedback... (hinthintnudgenudge)
Anyway, thanks for reading. :3
