BATTLE SCARS

"Colonel, sir, do you have any battle scars?" the new transfer meekly questioned his superior officer.

"Yes, Major Sergeant Fuery, I do."

"May I see them, sir?" Fuery was concerned that he was pushing the Flame Colonel. To his reputation as a psychic, he was proved right."

"Fuery, is there not something for you to be doing?" Mustang asked dangerously.

"Y-yes, sir!"

"Then go do it, so I can accomplish my work." Mustang returned to pretending to fill out his paperwork.

Fuery quickly exited. He had a shy nature; one that was unwilling to go near an angry Flame Colonel without a more fireproof uniform.

Because he was hurriedly walking, he didn't notice Havoc's extended arm until he ran into it. In the throat. Temporarily unable to speak, Kain looked at his accidental assailant with annoyance.

"Oops, sorry, newbie. Only meant to stop you. You need to watch where you're going."

"Thanks for the advice, Second Lieutenant Havoc, sir."

Havoc sighed at the boy's formality. "Why were you leaving in such a rush? Did you ask the boss about Hawkeye or something?"

"Huh? No, sir…I just asked if he had any battle scars…y'know, from Ishbal…"

Havoc couldn't believe it. He started laughing. He kept laughing until he almost swallowed his cigarette; that experience calmed him slightly.

"Should I not have, sir?"

"No…it's just…." Havoc paused to breath, "…Boss doesn't have any Ishbal scars."

"But he—"

Havoc cut him off, "Oh, he has battle scars, just not from Ishbal. One time he didn't manage to dodge a bullet in time."

Fuery was clearly puzzled; Havoc was about to explain further when Hawkeye walked past, towards the office.

"Morning," she said.

"Good morning, First Lieutenant, ma'am!" replied Fuery; Havoc merely nodded.

"His scars are from a different war, one that's ongoing," Havoc continued as soon as Riza was out of hearing distance.

"What do you mean?"

"You'll soon learn," Havoc said, then walked towards the water cooler.

Fuery stood there in puzzlement. Suddenly, from the direction of the office, the sound of a gunshot resounded.

"Okay, okay!!! I'll do my paperwork, just put the gun away, Hawkeye."
