The Slytherin common room was completely empty save for a young woman with pale skin, straight mousy brown hair and light brown eyes sitting in the armchair, with her legs curled up underneath her, opposite the fire. Everyone was downstairs in the Great Hall celebrating Christmas and kissing under the mistletoe. She was feeling miserable, despite the atmosphere, and therefore didn't want to join in. She didn't even hear the door opening.

"What are you doing, Narcissa?"

She jumped and turned around, finding herself face to face with a boy a year older than her with a pointed face, long white-blond hair and stone grey eyes.

"Lucius, you scared me! What are you doing here?" she asked scowling and turning away.

"I was wondering where you were… I saw you slope off on your own after dinner."

"Since when do you care about me, Malfoy?" she turned to glare at him "leave me alone."

"What? What did I do?" he asked, looking offended.

"We both know you like my sister, so –" she was cut off by Lucius laughing.

"Bellatrix?! Don't be stupid, Cissa."

"Okay, just stop laughing!"

He moved around and faced her. "I like you." He said softly, emphasizing the 'you' and brushing his fingers along her cheek bone.

She just stared at him, shocked. He seemed sincere enough. His eyes were no longer cold, but friendly. He began to lean in closer and closer so she could feel his breathe on her cheek. A noise at the common room door made them jump apart.
A young, lanky boy with greasy looking black hair walked in looking even more miserable than Narcissa felt earlier.

"Severus? What's up?" Narcissa asked, looking worried while Lucius made impatient clicking noises with his tongue.

"James." Severus simply replied, not making eye contact, still heading towards the boy's dormitories.

"Severus, wait!" Narcissa cried, ignoring Lucius' attempts to pull her back "What did he do?"

"I was just talking to Lily, and as usual he had to come and ruin everything." He looked as if he was about to cry.

"Oh, you're not still on about that Mudblood are you!?" Lucius sighed, exasperated.

"Lucius. Don't." Narcissa shot daggers at him with her eyes. "That's not nice. You know I believe in blood purity too, but you don't have to call her that, and besides, if Severus wants to talk to her, it's his right."

She turned around and led Severus towards the common room door. "Come on, we'll go and see Lily now."

Once they were in the Great Hall, she saw Lily sitting alone and directed Severus over to her. She saw Lily produced a huge smile when she saw. Narcissa smiled, took out her wand and conjured mistletoe above Lily and Severus.
She sighed, back to feeling miserable. She wondered whether she even liked Lucius, he could be a bit self-centered at times, like Bellatrix. But when he almost kissed her? He looked like he meant it. She was about to turn around to go back to the dormitories to continue her moping when she felt someone grab her shoulders, they spun her around and she found herself staring into a pair of grey eyes.

"Wh-" she was cut off by Lucius pecking her on the lips.

She pulled back and stared at him, bewildered. She noticed mistletoe above them. He was sincere. He did like her and she liked him and that was all that mattered.
She put her hands on his shoulders and leaned in for a longer kiss.
