Chapter 1
He was here. She could be sure of it. The was no mistaking the scent that filled the air. She had only gotten a whiff of it when she was young, but it was unforgettable.
Also, the reports of missing people and the found bodies was pretty telling of the fact that there was somebody that was of her people. There was NO way to mistake claw marks like that!
She folded her hands under her chin, eyes sparkling. "Oh, my dearest one," she breathed, "I do know you are here. The promise made by our family will be honored!" The gauzy fabric of her clothing whipped around her as an uncomfortable cold wind picked up. She should get inside, and soon.
What was this structure called, anyway? So huge... with so many humans. Child humans, at that. Who in the world would put children together like that? How stupid. Carefully, she lowered her hands. It wouldn't do to rip her clothing on her claws.
"Oh, my dear," she murmured as she opened the doors. "Oh, I promise, you will be taken from this Hell to your proper place." A smile crossed her face, crinkling what looked to be thick green eyeliner by her eyes. Her lips parted, showing her proud ivory fangs. "Yes, my promised one..."

Kaiba studied his nails, trying to find the slightly fleck that would give away his recent activities. Even with his careful study, his hands looked perfectly groomed and flawlessly neat.
Good. It wouldn't do if any part of him gave it away. With a smirk, he folded his hands in his lap and proceeded to indulge in his favorite lunchtime activity: Riling the Mutt.
Said mutt was yapping loudly, shaking his fist inches from Kaiba's face as two of his friends tried to calm him down. "Of course, mutt," Kaiba said calmly, falling back on a familiar pattern of insults, "the sound of your barking can't cover your mediocre dueling skills."
"Why you!"
"Jounouchi-kun, don't! Don't let him get to you."
What a stupid dog. Kaiba opened his mouth to let loose another round of insults when a loud squeal pierced through his eardrums and straight to his brain.
"SET!" A small bundle, wrapped in layers and layers of the finest green gauze, launched itself into his arms. "Oh, my darling, my dear, to find you in a place like this. I shouldn't have let him take you away!"
Each word stabbed deeper into his brain, the high pitched and slightly nasal voice as effective as an ice pick. Distastefully, he pried the thing (a girl, he noticed) off of him. "Who the hell are you?" he spat out, not caring how she took it.
She looked up at him with wide green eyes surrounded in what looked like similarly colored eyeliner. Her brown hair was braided back in intricate detail, and fell around her face in an artless manner. "But, Set," she whined, her voice quavering, "don't you remember? I'm Aridaine. Oh!" Aridaine hugged him. "I am so sorry! I should have remembered you were taken into another home at a young age!"
Again, Kaiba pried the girl off of him. "I don't know what you're talking about," he spat out, coldly.
"But... but..." Aridaine's eyes shone with unshed tears. "I'm your fiancée."
