Melissa could remember perfectly the first time she saw her baby sister. Her mom was lying in the hospital bed looking exhausted but smiling down at Spencer in her arms. She walked nervously up to her mom to get a closer look and saw a tiny pink human face poking out from a blanket. "You're a big sister now." Her mom said not taking her eyes off her new-born. "You have to watch out for her."
Melissa felt oddly protective as she murmured "I will." Somehow knowing that she would do anything to protect her little sister.
Six years later
She remembered the day when Spencer fell over running around outside and scraped her knee. Their mom was out and their dad was busy so Spencer came crying to her. Melissa took care of everything and bandaged it up perfectly before wiping her younger sister's tears away. Spencer grinned up at her and said "Thanks Melissa, you're the best big sister ever!" Before wrapping her little arms around her. Melissa hugged her back, "No problem Spence but you should be more careful."
Spencer pulled a face at her, "You sound like mom."
"I'm just looking out for you Spence. Want some ice cream?"
Eight years later
Melissa couldn't remember when it all changed, it must have happened gradually. One day she realised her little sister didn't look up to her how she used to. They were always at each other's throats. She tried her hardest to be a good role model for her, she got perfect grades and was involved in several important groups at UPEN, but Spencer only saw her as competition. She decided to try to fix this with some sisterly bonding time and taught Spencer how to make a flan. It was a fun afternoon and for a few weeks everything was okay but it didn't last.
Two years later
When she saw Spencer dragging that shovel and found what she thought was Alison's body she couldn't think properly. "Spencer what have you done?" she whispered to herself. All she could think about was protecting her little sister. She hurriedly buried the body before anyone else could find it. She would always do anything to protect her even if Spencer didn't notice or care. Spencer was the only sister she had and she would look out for her until she died.
