Prompt was: Or one of them taking care or trying to cheer his/her best friend up after a fight or a break up?

Rachel walked into the Starlight Diner feeling down. She had gotten asked out on a date by someone from NYADA, and the brunette had been so excited to go out with someone. Her dating life after Brody and Finn hadn't been the best. Most of the time they'd ask her out for a couple of dates and she'd never hear from them again. At least this one she knew somewhat, seeing him around school. But he stood her up and left her waiting for over an hour without a word. She finally left the coffee shop and walked the city till she no longer could take the loneliness. Just hearing the bell in the front of the shop lifted her spirits.

"Hey," she heard, off the side. She looked up and saw Kurt giving her a sad smile.

"Date didn't go too well then, huh?"

"He stood me up," pouted Rachel. She sat down in a booth with a thump. Kurt looked over to the pick up window before sitting down across from her. He took her hand.

"You'll find someone."

"I wonder," she sighed. "But thank you."

"You want something?" he asked.

Rachel shook her head. "Is Santana here?"

"No," said Kurt. "She took off earlier to go with Dani to roller derby. Apparently she's a phenom at the sport."

"Maybe I'll just go home," said Rachel. "It'd be quiet."

"Let me get you something to drink at least," said Kurt. "You look like you could use it."

"I am thirsty," said Rachel. "It was a bit of a long walk."

"One chocolate milkshake with almond milk and coconut whipped cream coming up. With extra chocolate syrup."

"And a cherry," she teased.

"Of course," said Kurt, giving her a half smile. "Be right back."

Rachel nodded and checked her text messages. The guy still hadn't texted her. He could have at least let her know something. Maybe he had forgotten an assignment. Or gotten an off Broadway role. Or maybe even had killed someone and had to dump the body. It would be nice to know what held him up.

Kurt came back with the milkshake and told her he had to go make his rounds as some customers had come back in. The diner when you ordered a milkshake served them with these large red and plastic striped straws. Her heart sank when she saw he had brought it out with two of them. She started to pull it out when she saw the message attached to it.

"Drink enough for me since I can't be your second date tonight. We can watch movies and pick apart the bad dialogue later."

Rachel smiled at that, knowing he would do his best to make her laugh. She sighed. She wondered what kind of alternate universe she had to live in where Kurt Hummel would be her boyfriend.
