My first BR fanfic! Shogo's thoughts as he faces Keiko for the last time.
What went wrong?
"No! I won't let you! Get away!" she cries, tears spilling down her cheeks. The revolver shakes in her hand. I find myself staring down the barrel, shock and horror evident on my face.
No, she can't be serious…She knows I would never -why is she doing this? Does she not trust me? What has this fucking game done to her?
"Keiko, no!" My voice is hoarse, I'm surprised the words could even be heard, but Keiko takes no notice. She raises her gun up, ready to fire…
Impulse takes over. I dive to the side, though my mind doesn't want to. My finger curls around the trigger of my firearm, a parting gift from one of the others.
No! That bullet is for me! Not her! Keiko wins!
The sound of a gunshot rings in my ears, and Keiko jerks backwards.
No, no this isn't happening. She wins…not me!
"KEIKO!"
Blood stains the ground, merging with Nakata's blood. Her beautiful eyes glaze over, their expression confused, as that ugly hole in her forehead burns its way into my mind. Her body falls landing grotesquely in the growing pool of red.
My legs give way. This isn't how it was supposed to be…
The locator starts pinging. I turn my damaged eyes away from her still body, perfect even in death.
One more left… Someone is behind me. I know it.
"Huh-uh. You shot her. Uh-huh. Thought she was aiming at you. Shot your sweetie."
I turn slowly to face the girl behind me. She's holding another gun, blood pouring freely from her head.
Time stops. Keiko wasn't aiming for…
Rage flows through me again. This wound will keep me going for a long time. Bitch thinks she can hurt me? I still have a bullet left! Bitch won't get away with this!
I shoot first. Her guts explode and she is thrown back several feet. Only the sound of my laboured breathing can be heard in the yard.
Then, suddenly, real pain, not just from loss, but actual pain pierces me.
"Fuck!"
The bitch's bullet had entered my gut. I collapse onto the ground; teeth gritted, cursing in vain.
After a few seconds, I haul myself up on to my knees, crawling towards the girl I loved.
"Keiko…" I whispered, hoping against hope that I would get an answer.
I hear helicopters faintly in the distance, coming for me. But I'm not the winner. Why are they coming for me? I lose. She wins…not me. Keiko wins…
