Summary: That Haloween night, at Godric's Hollow.
Author notes: a quick one off let me know if you like it
"Lily, It's him! Run, take Harry! I'll try and hold him off!"
"No! James!"
"Just GO Lily! You have to save Harry, he's the only one that matters!"
Lily Evans-Potter raced into the nursery and picked up her one-year-old son. Even as she cuddled him she knew it was too late. Tears streamed from her eyes. For the loss of her beloved husband, for she knew he was gone, murdered by the evil presence invading her family's home. She cried for the life her son would never have. She didn't care about herself. Her husband was gone and she knew she couldn't live without him.
"Harry James Potter, no matter what happens, remember that your parents love you." She placed the uncertain child back in his crib and turned to face the monster intent on ripping her family to shreds. The nursery door swung open. The man every witch and wizard in the country feared stepped inside the door, the sniveling rodent right behind him.
"Stand aside, girl. I will deal with you later."
"NO! Not Harry, please, take me, kill me but leave Harry!"
"Avada Kedavera" The green light advanced on her with a malice only associated with the man that wielded it. Lily didn't think it would hurt this much. Maybe it was twice as painful because there was nothing she could do to stop that monstrosity from turning his wand on her baby. She was dying, she knew she was. There was only one thing she had to say first.
"Harry, remember we love you!" And so she died, her last strangled scream echoing off the nursery walls, much to the amusement of her murderer and her betrayer. The man who could only be described as an embodiment of evil then turned his wand on the child who was wondering why his mother had chosen that spot to take a nap. It was then that the rodent had an attack of conscience.
"Do you have to, master?"
"Wormtail, you know as well as I that he is a threat."
"Couldn't you let me raise him my Lord? He could grow up FOR your cause rather than against it."
"Ah, Peter my faithful, simple servant, can you tell me which is better, a possible threat or no threat?"
"No threat, sir. I understand." The betrayer slumped his shoulders in defeat. But his master was right after all, wasn't he?
"Avada Kedavera" Pain! He wasn't supposed to feel pain. Why the pain? The baby was screaming. Baby felt pain as well then. Good. But still he was in pain too. Something wasn't right. So hard to think, too much pain ripping him apart from the inside. But he refused to die. His life essence drifted away on a passing breeze while his body imploded into nothingness causing the simple family home in Godric's Hollow to crumble. Rubble covered over the body of James Potter. A large chunk of ceiling collapsed on top of the one who betrayed him. Everywhere the house fell to pieces yet the Lily that was and baby Harry, still alive and screaming, were protected by some unknown force of magic.
