Where Lies the Heart of Darkness

He listened to the screams of that creature as he had sliced through its unholy carcass. He relished the sensation of steel cleaving through skin, flesh, and bone. Throughout he remained untouched, compassionless, for the other's suffering.

As he reached in and felt his hand close around the offending organ, he felt a sick revulsion towards the creature lying prone before him; combined with the elation and satisfaction that usually accompanied the bringing down of one of this foul breed.

Except, this time it had been stronger. The intensity had been...most pleasing.

Drinking in the sound of his dying victim's laboured breathing, he smiled darkly, holding aloft the bloody heart for all to see. Watching the heart's blood stain his armour; he now felt sated, the fervour for bloodshed stemmed from hatred released in this act.

"Look at his black heart, how it still beats!" He heard Turel's voice and silently resented the presence of his brethren and thus their share in his glory.

His eyes and thoughts were turned away from the bloodied mass in his hand as he became aware of another presence in the room. His head turned and his eyes locked with those belonging to...What are you?

There was something almost familiar feeling about that demonic entity, but before he had any time to respond to the new threat, he felt the building shake around him and his name being called. As he broke into run he had wits enough to delay another's rather than his own escape, "Remember the sword!" It would not be acceptable to leave it behind, even if in peril.

He sat quietly in the chapel reliving the murder of Janos. Janos Audron, he mentally spat the name. It didn't seem right that these accursed beings could have something so human as names. It was an affront, and insult to everything that was right and proper. It was a shame to have had to have left that other creature, but it would be dealt with, no matter what sorcery it could invoke to confuse the feelings. But Janos was dead, a great victory and his suffering a great source of pleasure. The Heart of Darkness had been safely secured.

Sitting alone in that chapel, if Raziel would look inside himself honestly, he would know where the Heart of Darkness truly lay.
