He heard a loud growl behind him but before Marco could react, Star had thrown herself at his attacker.

Although he was twice her size she managed to hit him hard enough leaving him stumbling slightly.

With rage filled eyes, she reared back the brick gripped in her fist and hit the soldiers jaw as hard as she could, over and over.

A sudden white hot pain drove through her chest blazing like a fire and she shrunk back, stumbling and stammering in shock. She winced as she pulled the dagger out of her chest,

She didn't notice she has fallen until all she could see was Marco leaning over.

"No, no, S-Star I-I, you're okay." Brown panicked eyes scanning over her as he desperately clung onto her hand, "You're- you'll make it through this."

She could feel herself fading fast as she made an attempted to reach out to him. Pain flared again and she recoiled, gasping.

"M-Marco," she choked when he flinched, "I'm, I-"

He shook his head hastily as tears spilled down his cheeks, "No, p-please." He knew what she was going to say, and he couldn't bare it, "Please don't leave me Star, I-I can't loose you."

She dragged his hand towards her lips, kissing it gently and breathing, "I love you..." with a small pained smile.

Before Marco could say anything he watched her eyes cloud over and her hand go limp.

Terror like he'd never felt seized him, his eyes wide and anxious, "Star? N-no, Star please! Speak to me!"

The only thing that greeted him was an empty smile and lifeless eyes that used to be so bright and filled with energy. He repeated her name as he dragged his fingers across her eyelids. Maybe if he said it enough, she'd hear him and come back.

He didn't know how long he was by her side sobbing to himself until he felt a hand on his shoulder that made jump out of his skin. He spun around, kicking out and swiftly bringing the offender to the ground.

Startled but familiar brown eyes blinked across at him in surprise.

"J-Janna?" He rasped, his voice sounding unlike his own. He didn't even realise he had been screaming. "Uh, s-sorry I-"

"Oh my god." She gasped, glancing past him for a moment in between Star and the soldier's corpse before scooting closer and hugging onto him.

"She... she saved me..."

"I know..." She held him there quietly for a few seconds and although grateful for her, Marco couldn't remember a time when he had felt so... empty.

She separated from him and started pulling on his arm, wiping her eyes on her sleeve, "C'mon, we have to go."

"No, I-I can't, I-"

"Marco!" She hissed, glancing between him and the soldier, "There's more coming. We... we have to leave her. I'm sorry."

He was silent, trying not to think back to all the memories they shared, things that would make it harder for him to leave.

"Okay."

Janna had him running in an instant, though he barely felt it. He forced himself not to look back for fear of stopping, because all he could feel was the grief swallowing him from a part that had been so suddenly taken from him.

"I love you too..." He murmured into the cold wind.

Um, please critique my work if you can think of anything to say. I am so new to character deaths in writing, so help would be absolutely fabulous, please and thank you.

(PLEASE LEAVE ALL SPOILERS OUT OF YOUR REVIEWS. SERIOUSLY GUYS, I HAVEN'T SEEN EITHER MOCKINGJAYS YET)
