Prologue

Elsa sat at the dining table, quietly playing with her peas. "Would you like some more ice cream, Anna?" Her mother asked her little sister, voice sweet as honey. "I would like some..." Said Elsa. Her father glared at her. "We don't want you catching a cold now, do we?" Said her mother tenderly, a fake smile plastered on her face. She watched helplessly as her parents gave her sister everything she wanted, while all she was given peas and potatoes.

This was what happened every single night at dinner. She poked her fork through a pea, dreaming what it would be like if she was in a family that actually loved her. "I'm done..." She said, her voice choking with longing of the motherly love she never received. She didn't get why her sister got so much attention, while she was treated like a maid. She settled on her sister's bed, hoping to spend some time there before her parents came. She had to sleep on the floor, which became pretty cold in the winter. She snuggled up in her sister's thick comforter. She knew her sister wouldn't mind, but her parents would explode. She heard the door open and abruptly got up, losing her balance and crashing onto the floor.

"I see your all tucked in.." Said her mother, an evil smile on her face, mocking her clumsiness. Elsa sighed. "Can't I sleep on one of the guest beds tonight? The floor is awfully cold..." She said, her teeth chattering. Her mother looked at her, eyes filled with fake sympathy. "Let me think... NO!" She said, cackling like a witch. Elsa sighed and gathered her thin, torn blanket and laid down, looking at the hundreds of fluorescent stars glued onto the ceiling. The door opened again and she closed her eyes pretending to be asleep. Anna came in, her pretty blue nightgown studded with sequins. She saw her sister shivering on the floor, with only her torn old blanket to safeguard her from frostbite. She took her warm fuzzy comforter and draped it over her sister. Elsa smiled.

She was glad to have a sister like Anna to help her get through everything.
