James and Kendall were enjoying one of their prized days off. Hanging at the beach, James was trying to teach Kendall to surf. James was holding on to Kendall's green board keeping him from drifting off as he explained what Kendall was supposed to do, paddle out to a wave and as he was being lifted up he was supposed to get slowly on his knees and then to his feet and then ride the wave in to the shore. Kendall was nervous, but he couldn't back down from anything. He didn't want James to know that he was scared, putting up a front. Kendall doesn't get scared, he gets determined to beat what ever the challenge is.
James nodded his head out of the water and asked "Ready to go, Kendall?"
Kendall swallowed then nodded, getting his game face on. James let go of the surf board and encouraged his boyfriend. "Go own this baby," he said.
Kendall lied with his stomach down on the board and his arms stretching out to push him forward out to the deep water and the upcoming wave. James stayed back to watch Kendall and to give him future pointers on his surfing. James had spent a good two hours with Kendall going over the basics of what to do and what not to do. James didn't mind the extra time though. He just wanted to teach something to Kendall, so maybe they could love it together, and spend extra time with each other. James hated to see his love sitting on the beach with nothing to do. He did that the last time they were there. And some girl had followed him around saying that they were in love.
James focused on Kendall as he snapped out of this thoughts, watching as Kendall wobbly got to his knees as James had told him. Everything was in slow motion as Kendall fell in to the water as the wave crashed down on top of him.
James screamed out instinctively. "Kendall!"
When he didn't see him come up. James paddled out as fast as he could, which is fast because James bought the lightest and fastest one the sports shop had, when James saw Kendall's board floating away with a torn leash, he realized that the leash that he had tightly strapped on to Kendall's ankle had snapped and that Kendall was still underwater. James ripped his leash off his own ankle and dove after Kendall.
After searching for all of three seconds he had located Kendall and was swimming down to him, James wrapped one of his strong long arms around his boyfriend's limp body and swam for all he was worth. He pulled them out and grabbed his surf board throwing Kendall on top of it. James swam back to the shore as fast and as hard as he could, reaching it in mere seconds. James started to do CPR on Kendall, pumping his chest three times, until Kendall started coughing up the salt water. After Kendall had gotten all of the water out of his body, James wrapped him up in his arms, pulling Kendall to his strong chest. Kendall had remained quiet for a few moments letting James hug it out.
When Kendall finally spoke up, his voice was guilty. "I guess it would have helped if I told you that I couldn't swim."
James smirked. "Maybe a little bit," he joked. "But I would have still loved you the same. It doesn't matter to me that you can't swim, you know? This relationship isn't about what you can or cant do."
Kendall smiled. "You do know that I was just trying to impress you, right?"
"You'e so cute," James said quietly. "I think its adorable that you try to impress me." James gave Kendall a quick kiss, but pulled away after a few seconds. "I love you so much, Kendall. But don't ever scare me like that again! I can't have you damaged."
Kendall smiled widely. "I love you more, James. I won't do that again. Well, at least not until you give me some swim lessons."
James laughed and responded quickly. "Next weekend for sure. You've had enough for today."
"Its a date," Kendall smirked.
The happy couple spent the rest of their day splashing in the shallow water, laughing and kissing.
