Till Death Do Them Part
Gabriella Montez- a frail 70 year old woman with wrinkles. A petite person who once was the girl of Troy Bolton. What was she thinking? She still was even though he past on a year ago. When he died a part of her died with him. He had past away in his sleep pain free, the way she had always hoped he would. Also, partly because she didn't have to witness it first hand. She didn't have to see him leave her. He was her life and she was his – end of story.
It took her all the strength in world to show up that day at his funeral. The moment that casket was lowered into the ground, she came to realization, that he was never coming back. This wasn't just some nightmare where you could wake up screaming. This was life and everyday was a struggle for her. She counted the hours, minutes and seconds of each day. It was as if every day brought her closer to the day she and him were going to be together again. Her friends past on a few years before Troy did which made it even harder for her. She was alone and she didn't like it.
She was exposed to the elements as she closed the squeaking door behind her. Gabriella raised her face towards the moon which made it seemed as if everything else was dead. She looked at it for a long time- world to world- person to person- person to world. She knew what everyone said was true, about how you never know when you're in the right place at the right time. Was she? What was were purpose to still be here? Why did he die before her? She couldn't imagine one day without him let alone a year.
At one point you realize it's true that everyone must fight alone. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. For a minute everything else disappeared. She didn't want to destroy his memories, she needed them- needed them like the sun needs the stars. Her frail body sat comfortable on the old rocking chair perched on the edge of the porch. It was Troy's rocking chair during his old age. He loved to watch the sunset with her as he rocked back and forth with her on his lap. That was her favorite memory.
As closed her eyes and listened to the sounds around her, she could have sworn she heard him say the word, "Soon." She longed to hear his voice one more time. It was music to her ears. The wind blew against her cool skin, kissing her flushed cheeks, and for a moment it almost felt like they were together again. She leaned back in contentment and succumbed into a deep slumber being lulled by his voice coaxing her to let go of all sadness she had within her. Her breath stopped in her slumber and at that same moment she felt pain free for the first time in a year. The two danced in the sky in their young age of 20, the age the two vowed themselves to each other in sickness and in health till death do them part.
I know it is extremely short, but I thought it was sweet and I had fun with it. I hope you like it!
