Chapter 1
A new face
A scream echoed through the trees. Inuyasha and Kagome froze, looking to the west. Who could that be? It sounds like a girl is in trouble, he thought. Kagome spoke his thoughts. "Inuyasha, a girl is in trouble! We must save her!"
"Fine! If she is so helpless to not take care of herself, then I guess we have to," he said, his voice full of sarcasm. He allowed Kagome to get on his back, and then he raced through the trees. The screams erupted again, only making him speed up. He leaped into the air a few times, propelling him farther along. I hope Kagome doesn't get hurt, he thought, Kagome was the only person he had now to talk to, and the only one that could help find the sacred jewel shards since Sango, Miroku, and Kirara had gone off to take care of some business.
Finally they burst through the trees, dust flying up into the air. Before them was a girl on a table, strapped down and being cut but a big, ugly green demon. "Leave her alone," Kagome yelled, causing the demon to turn around, knife in hand. Kagome got off of Inuyasha, then stood behind him.
Inuyasha gave out a gasp as he saw the girl. She had long orange hair and very long finger nails. But that wasn't what made him gasp. He gasped because not only did she have half-dog-demon ears, but she also had the face of Kikyo, Inuyasha's former lover who had died and now wandered the world as a cold, dead spirit. She can't be Kikyo, she just can't! And she smells and looks like a half-dog-demon, but, how is that possible? Not many people had half-demon children anymore! Inuyasha yelled in his head, disbelief in his head-voice.
He pulled out his sword, the Tetsiga, then said to the demon, "You are going to die a painful death, you wretch!" Inuyasha leaped to the demon and stabbed him in the heart, then cut his head off, the blood spilling everywhere and the stench filling Inuyasha's nostrils.
After the turmoil was over, Inuyasha freed the half-demon girl on the table, carefully pulling her up from the table. "Are you okay, miss?" he said, the first bit of politeness in his voice sensed since he had never yet spoken like that since the death of Kikyo.
Kagome sulked silently. She knew that even though she was the reincarnation of Kikyo, that this new girl looked even more like her than she did, plus, she was a half-dog-demon. Now I really can't compete with them. I can't believe this! I'll never have a chance to be with Inuyasha if all of these other girls are around him! I probably share more with Kikyo than this stupid other half-demon! It's just not fair! she exploded in her thoughts.
"I'm f-f-f-fine," stuttered the girl. "My n-name's Kisa," she said before she passed out in his arms. She really is like Kikyo, why couldn't Kagome be this beautiful? I have to put up with Kagome's bitching and complaining, and this girl is too nice, he thought.
