The Time Traveler appeared in the forest, a bit flustered in his rush to return. He looked around and saw a faint orange glow punctuating the near blackness. He ran towards it, taking out the lantern he had prepared, just in case.

He heard his own yells as hid behind a tree, watching himself escaping the blindly wandering Morlocks.

He had to find her. So he began searching, sprinting around with a frantic air about him. He finally saw a dark mass huddled near a tree, away from the flames. He heart faint breath. A sigh of relief escaped his lips, and he touched the small shape tentatively. It was Weena, breathing and still alive. He began to walk back to the Time Machine, now carrying her over his shoulder. His lantern lit, the Morlocks could do nothing more than circle around him.

The Time Traveler broke into a run, realizing that if it continued this way, the Morlocks would get to the Machine before him! He increased his speed to a sprint, sweating copiously now and keeping an eye out for his device. He suddenly stopped, unsure of where he was going. Why hadn't he made a mark or something? Weena stirred a bit and he quickly glanced at her unconscious form. Looking back around, he noticed that all of the Morlocks had disappeared. He pricked his ears, but could only hear distant yells and the crackling of burning branches.

He resumed his sprint, going away from the sound of the turmoil. He heard some harsh, guttural murmurs ahead and saw great big eyes reflecting towards him a bit to the left. He saw a sparkle of quartz, a flash, and the murmurs were gone, accompanied by a faint rushing sound, as of a strong sea breeze. He set Weena down next to the lantern and began to sob. He would never be able to leave, and always be pursued by the dreaded Morlocks.... Oh, how he yearned to go to the end of time, alone, with Weena!

The Time Traveler stared at the faint brightness in the distance, then at his lantern and then at Weena. After making this progression several times, he fixed his gaze on the spot where the Time Machine had been and buried his face in his hands.
