They had been sparring in Zion, testing their real life abilities. Neo could beat her in a second inside their training programs and that was only if he didn't hack the coding inside. Here, in their underground city, the match was nearly equal.
In this particular fight, Trinity took the lead by a hair. She was one step ahead of Neo, knowing his techniques almost all too well. He kicked, she blocked. He punched, she ducked. He tackled, she flung him off. He was getting frustrated but she was highly amused. They promised not to hold back but Trinity was afraid of hurting him. He was indestructible in the training simulations but outside the programs, they couldn't risk getting hurt. Neo finally caught Trinity off-guard with a fist to her cheek with quite a bit of power behind it. If he'd go all out, then fine, so would she.
Her speed nearly doubled and she pounded a couple of blows into Neo's ribs. He pushed her to the padded mats of the arena and straddled her, pinning her down. He cocked his head and grinned, silently asking, "Have I won?" Trinity shook her head, mustering all her strength to push him off. She kneeled on all fours trying to catch her breath and looked to Neo, eyes meeting and he saw danger. He knew she was angry and he knew he should probably surrender but this was one of their most intense fights and he wasn't about to back down now.
Trinity composed herself and stood up, ready for what would come. Neo struck first, his fists everywhere and a knee to the stomach. She went down again, rolling to the side just in time before Neo stomped his foot down, missing her by inches. "You're breaking your promise," Trinity grunted. She understood why; she was getting her ass kicked. She lost her head in battle but the salty taste inside her mouth only reminded her that she promised Neo she would call it before either recruit got hurt.
Neo delivered a gruesome blow to her jaw with his boot-clad foot. 'How's that for holding back, Trin?' He thought proudly until realizing he had actually hurt her. She cradled her jaw, squeezing her eyes shut to avoid tears. "Trinity! Jesus, I'm so sorry. Let me see." He was suddenly at her side, gently prying her hands away from her cheek. Her lips were stained with crimson and she felt like room spinning as she swallowed a mouthful of blood, coughing on it. "Whoa," said the brown eyed soldier as she went limp in his hold. "Easy." They sunk to the floor together while Trinity regained herself and she leaned to the side to spit, leaving a puddle of blood.
With her tongue, she felt the source of the blood and nothing but tissue in between two smooth teeth. She saw Neo reach for her violent puddle and grimaced as he picked out her pearly molar. "I knocked your tooth out," said Neo, now over the edge with worry and guilt.
"Well that's painfully obvious. Pun intended," replied Trinity, still holding her cheek. She wasn't angry with him, he was only doing what she told him. She was simply frustrated with herself for letting it happen. It would be a learning experience. Her lesson: Neo is unstoppable. "Come on," she said, using him to pull herself up. "I have to get this cleaned up."
They walked out of the arena, Trinity holding her jaw and Neo's arm around her. She could get the bleeding to stop and find someone to stitch up the wound, giving her antibiotics until it healed. It would be a pain for now, but in a couple months she'd be good as new. "Trinity?" She hummed. "At least there's something good about this."
She cocked an eyebrow and gazed at him. "And what would that be?"
Neo smiled. "You get one more visit from the tooth fairy." Trinity rolled her eyes and hit his arm. "Ow!" he exclaimed. "That actually hurt." Trinity grinned. She was holding back.
This fic probably has something to do with me getting my wisdom teeth out this week. -sigh- xD
