I wonder how they are.
It wasn't often that you saw this man's eyes soften like they did at that moment. This man was a soldier, a man ready to defend Earth and its colonies. He wasn't a Spartan, or an ODST. He was just a skilled marine officer, fighting for his friends, his family. For her.
And for them.
He would never admit it, though.
He wished he could see them. He had only seen the boy once since his birth three years ago. The girl he had only seen in the picture he was holding. She had been born a week ago.
I hope she's not smart-mouhed. That would make three of us. I think their mom will manage, seeing as she had practice from me...
He smirked.
Ha! He had kids. Him! John Forge was a father. Those words just did not go in the same sentence. The idea was ludicrous. He was a father of two children, duties and his dedication was brought into question. He almost grimaced. At the least, if things got out his reputation as a one shot was ruined. At worst... they would grow up without a father. But then he thought of her. Somehow she had always brought him back. Then Devlyn arrived and it all changed.
I don't know if I like it or not.
His boy... he reminded him so much of himself, even at a young age. Devlyn had goldish brown eyes and a slightly brown tuff of hair. But that kid had a heart of gold, something that Forge had lacked a while ago. That was about all he knew about his son. It was abit depressing really, even for him.
But even if he wanted to, he couldn't see his son.
There's a damn war going on. Fucking Covenant.
He was angry, and if he was honnest with himself, he was worried. The Covenant were attacking Arcadia, and his... family – God, it felt weird using that word – was there.
The UNSC promised him that they'd be safe... no matter what would happen to him serving Earth and her colonies. And he knew that someday something would. But...
They'll keep my kids safe... they have to. They're the only good thing right now...
They needed to be safe.
He hoped to God that the promise would be kept.
