I do not own Final Fantasy or the song Lullabye for a Stormy Night. This is Shounen-ai so if you don't like then don't read. Or you can see it as close friends.

This idea came to me when I was listening to this song and it wouldn't go away so I finally wrote it down. Um if you don't want a sad ending then when you read Two years stop.

Zack held Cloud close to him, like so many times before. The sound of thunder radiating outside, and the pounding of rain on the window. Cloud shivered and tucked himself up closer to Zack. Zack started humming, Cloud focused on the humming. Soon Zack started singing, his voice sounding like it even quieting the storm.

"Little child, be not afraid

The rain pounds harsh against the glass

Like an unwanted stranger

There is no danger

I am here tonight…" Cloud looked up at Zack.

"Little child

Be not afraid

Though thunder explodes

And lightning flash

Illuminates your tearstained face

I am here tonight

And someday you'll know

That nature is so

This same rain that draws you near me

Falls on rivers and land

And forests and sand

Makes the beautiful world that you see

In the morning

Little child

Be not afraid

The storm clouds mask your beloved moon

And its candlelight beams

Still keep pleasant dreams

I am here tonight

Little child

Be not afraid

The wind makes creatures of our trees

And the branches to hands

They're not real, understand

And I am here tonight"

Cloud smiled, his eyes slowly closing as Zack continued to sing.

"And someday you'll know

That nature is so

This same rain that draws you near me

Falls on rivers and land

And forest and sand

Makes the beautiful world that you see

In the morning

For you know, once even I

Was a little child

And I was afraid

But a gentle someone always came

To dry all my tears

Trade sweet sleep the fears

And to give a kiss goodnight" Zack leaned down and kissed Cloud's forehead

"Well, now I am grown

And these years have shown

Rain's a part of how life goes

But it's dark and it's late

So I'll hold you and wait

'til your frightened eyes do close

And I hope that you'll know

That nature is so

This same rain that draws you near me

Falls on rivers and land

And forests and sand

Makes the beautiful world that you see

In the morning

Everything's fine in the morning

The rain will be gone in the morning

But I'll(you'll) still be here in the morning…" Zack smiled hearing Cloud join him in singing the last verse as they both closed their eyes and fell asleep.

The next morning Cloud woke to Zack still tucked around him, he would never grow tired waking up to Zack, and having Zack comfort him.

Two years after Zack's death, Cloud sat inside the abandoned church, a storm raging outside. He smiled faintly as the song that Zack sung to him came floating back. Cloud started to hum as he walked back to the bar. As he came in he went upstairs to check on Marlene and Denzel, he slowly came in Denzel was huddled under the blanket.

Cloud sat down beside him, and the words came from his mouth. He sung quietly till both children were sound asleep. Cloud stood up and walked to his room. He dropped his messenger back and placed the Buster Sword by the bed. As he went to stand to watch out the window. He was humming the song again. The one thing that still gave him comfort on these nights when he couldn't sleep.

The next morning Cloud woke up laying in his bed, when he finally laid down he didn't remember. Rolling over he saw laying on the extra pillow a yellow flower. Picking it up, Cloud smiled faintly as tears came to his eyes.

"Zack…" The word fell from his lips before he knew it as did the tears.
