when the universe explodes

vampire!lily/teddy

Gradually, the sanity slips from the depths of her eyes; Teddy watches, and wishes he didn't have to.

She's eighteen to his twenty-nine, and together they lay sprawled across the floor of her chaotic flat. A cigarette is perched between the (pretty) swell of her lips, and through the smoke that condenses the air, Teddy thinks Lily looks a lot like a dream.

He studies her shamelessly, and this new, vacant girl is both familiar and indistinguishable all at once, like a stranger that he's damned to pursue for eternity. The world spins that much faster as his eyes trace the shadows that fall beneath the hollows of her gaunt face, the long, red twists of her hair, the (once colored) colorless pallor of her skin. Teddy longs to grip her by her narrow shoulders, to shake her and release the words the beat at the walls of his skull- but Merlin no, he can't, because he'd rather have this lost, desolate version of Lily, the girl that used to shine brighter than the universe, than none of her at all. (She's all he has, all he wants, and that in itself is the worst curse imaginable, and still he has to wonder what he did to deserve this.)

"Sometimes, I wish I would've died." she sighs.

Needle point canines break free from the pink confines of her gums, and in place of tears, Teddy replies.

"Sometimes I do too."
