Jane's POV

The raging crowd carried us through the streets.

"Jane!" Alec bellowed as we began to drift apart.

"Alec!" I cried as loud as I could, outstretching my arm to try and reach Alec's hand.

They pressed me up against a wooden post with immense force, my feet now dangling beneath me as rope constricted around my chest, my breaths becoming shorter.

I looked around. Where was he? Tears began rolling down my cheek as I realized he was gone.

"Please!" I pleaded with the mob, begging for their mercy.

"Witch!" One screamed in response, the crowd now began to chant. The word terrified me.

I felt something grab my hand, my heart began to race in fear. I tried to turn, but it was no use. I could see Alec's hand out of the corner of my eye. I squeezed it in relief.

"Alec!" I tried to scream with the air left in my lungs.

I looked out into the crowd to see an orange flame hanging above the mob being passed slowly towards me.

I started to flail my feet as if I could possibly loosen the rope that bound me to this deathtrap. Tears began to pour from my eyes as I cried uncontrollably.

The flame had disappeared in the blink of an eye. I felt delirious.

The pressure from Alec's hand stopped. I briefly let go, his hand dropped. I let out a scream of terror. What had happened, I couldn't see him, making it more intense for me.

I looked down to see an orange see rising, eating the brush that lay beneath my kicking feet.

'Jane. Calm down & breathe. Everything will be ok.' I tried to calm myself. Weakening myself would not solve anything.

I could feel the heat of the flame drawing nearer.

The crowd began to scream, people began to run. I couldn't see anything. As the crowd began to separate I could briefly see three bodies lying in the distance.

My breath now was almost gone & the light was slowly slipping. My fight was over as the flames now began to torture my feet.

I let out one last shrill scream in pain letting the air escape.
