"Hey," Kate said simply as she took a seat by Sawyer as he sat on the sand looking out to sea.
"Hey, Freckles," he mumbled back.
Kate shifted herself over to face Sawyer as she grabbed his arm.
"How's it doing?" She asked undoing the bandage that was rapped around his arm where he was stabbed.
"Healing well, paining no less," he replied still looking out to sea.
"Ouch," Kate said as she finished undoing it looking at the slit, "he really got you bad."
"I lived."
"Yeah, you did," she replied squeezing little parts of the arm at a time.
"What are you doing?" he asked looking down at his arm as she squeezed little portions of his arm.
"What should be done," Kate said not bothering to look up at him.
"No, not what should be done," Sawyer said with his cocky grin, "what you want to be done."
Kate rolled her eyes and continued on what she was doing.
"Ah well, I don't mind."
Kate looked up at him; he stared back down at her then quickly turned his attention to the ocean again.
Kate let out a sigh then did his bandage up again.
"You're not near done healing yet."
"Why?" Sawyer said out of the blue.
"Well, because it's just not." Kate said thinking he was asking about the healing.
Sawyer chuckled then looked down at Kate, "No. Why do you throw yourself all over Jack?"
"First," Kate started, "I don't throw myself all over him, I am just a friend, and second if I did throw myself over him in anyway, which I don't- it would be because he is safe."
"Safe?"
"Yes, safe."
"Oh come on Kate, you gotta be kidding me! He would rat you out any second if the police came looking for you." Sawyer said looking down at her.
"Well can you suggest any one better on this island for me?" She said.
"Well I know someone that would run places with you if you had to. I know someone who would raise a child with you and would still run even if it means he would have to take care of the child. I know someone who would love you forever no matter what. Most of all, I know someone who needs you and would die for you."
Kate chuckled not believe what he just said, "and who is this man?"
Sawyer paused for a moment and looked back out to sea, he stared for minutes, the turned his attention to her.
"No one," Sawyer said beating himself up inside for not telling her the truth that he was that man, that he would do all that for her, and that he needed her.
"Nothing can be that good, Sawyer." She said.
"Yeah," he quietly said as he got up and walked towards his tent.
