A/N: This is a letter from me, to Catherine Sheffield Foxworth. Everything in the letter is completely true, by the way (: This is before Cathy died.

Dear Catherine,

First off, please accept my dearest apologies over your dear Christopher's death. After reading your stories, I felt deep remorse, because I know you loved him very much. I'd like to tell you that you have inspired me in many ways; the most major being the decision to start dancing. You lived dance, ate it, and breathed it, and that made me want to, too.

But this letter is not just for the sole purpose of my ballet; I'm writing this because I feel you are owed some sort of explanation. I hope this letter will help you understand why you were locked in that attic, and why the grandmother was so cruel to you and your siblings. In this letter, I have enclosed a copy of Garden of Shadows, the story of your hateful grandmother.

Would you believe it if I told you that the grandfather would have welcomed you with open arms? Your grandfather loved your mother and father very much and he would have rejoiced to have such lovely granddaughters in his home, like you and your Carrie.

Would you also shake your head in disbelief as I tell you that your grandmother wanted to take your brother, whom she never looked at, and rain kisses on his face? By looking at you, she was flooded back with happy memories of your mother? You see, Cathy, Olivia Foxworth lived a hard life, wanting only happiness growing up, but then thrust into Malcolm's cruel world, where he ridiculed his sons, and cheated on his wife with his father's young wife. When he got her pregnant, she was locked away from her young son, your father, in the same room you were imprisoned in, until she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Corrine. Yes, Cathy, your parents were brother and sister, although they never knew that. Olivia loved your mother nevertheless, and she, liked everyone else, was charmed by Corrine. When she received that letter from your mother, she could not help cry for the death of the boy so like her own son. It was her decision to let your mother come back with the four of you.

Here's the real kicker: It was not your grandmother's idea to lock you away. No, she would have taken you all in, and loved each of you dearly, if not for her cousin, whom you know, John Amos. When your grandmother heard about you four, she wanted to love you all, and have you love her. But John Amos convinced her you were all the devil's spawn, and the only way to redeem your parents for their sin was to lock you away for the rest of your life.

Cathy, I ask that you find forgiveness before you, the last of the lovely Dresden Dolls, pass on. I wrote this letter in hopes that you will understand that it really was not your mother, or grandmother's fault. If you have to have hate in your heart, have it for John Amos.

Truthfully, I think your mother loved you all beyond words, as Olivia loved her three children. Corrine never meant for Cory to die, Cathy, honestly.

Just read the book, you will understand.

Love always,

Emily Smith.
