Tolerance
I tolerate this, because they like me. I mean, if that's what they want, that's what I'll give them. I'm happy to be that green kid that eats the tofu because they know me. Even if it's just from the background of the news pictures.
Tolerance is the third instalment of a mini-series that I have been writing for Teen Titans (with 'Friends' and 'Faith'). The series has no order, so don't panic XD I really tried to get a sense of how the team must feel, and then tried to catch hold of the darkest elements I could find. This one was quite difficult, but when I started to see Beastboy as different, the fic fell into place. It's really short, so let me know if you think I should extend it any 3
Disclaimer: I don't own the show or the characters, or anything else really worth mentioning.
In this line of business, we must control ourselves so completely. Be untouchable. Unreachable. Whilst, of course, maintaining a strong, likable public image. I struggle more than most. I mean, Robin has his whole 'boy-wonder' thing going on and his public image ratings are through the roof because he was batman's protege. Cy has this hunky-geeky thing going on and I've been told that geek-chic is really quite popular now.
But then there's me. Beastboy. Sounds so likable, doesn't it? BEASTboy. Beastboy. I'm not a boy anymore. Robin isn't the boy wonder anymore. We've grown up.
And what does the public think of me? 'Oh, he's that green kid who eats tofu'. Seriously. That's what I've heard. And, well... fair play on the whole green thing. I am, in fact, pretty damn green... but there's so much more to me than tofu, isn't there?
But I tolerate this, because they like me. I mean, if that's what they want, that's what I'll give them. I'm happy to be that green kid that eats the tofu because they know me. Even if it's just from the background of the news pictures. Because one day, Robin the protege won't be there to help, and Cy the cyber-hunk won't be there to help, but I will. Because I'm always there. I'm always there to help.
Robin runs past me, calling news of another robbery over his shoulder, followed by the rest of the team. Team. We used to be such a good team. But then, I think, we grew up. Most of us grew up too quickly – apart from Star, who still talks like a child. Still has so much to learn – but then, ignorance is bliss.
I stand to follow, but stumble slightly, my legs numb from sitting in the same position for so long. Raven catches me, tells me to be careful and I show her that big, goofy grin I'm so famous for. It irritates her. I know it does. That's the reason I do it. I like Rae. A lot. I mean, the whole male population of this city likes Rae a lot, but I actually know her. And there are moments – only fleeting ones, where I get the impression she knows how I feel. And that she actually gives a damn.
Only moments.
Hey guys XXX
I was originally going to call this fic 'only moments', but changed my mind at the last moment to make the fic title fit with the other fics in the series. Drop me a line if you think I should change it back!
Please, please, please review. Whenever I get a review, I feel like it's Christmas all over again. Go on. Make me happy XD
Ciao ciao,
