Marguerite smiled as her two favorite students smiled shyly at each other. Oh, she may be an old woman, but she still did her fair share of meddling. When Joe had moved here, she had the idea of introducing them formulating in her mind. The two would be unstoppable together. She slyly slipped out of the room as the two started to play together. Smiling to herself, she locked the door behind her.
Joe was perplexed by the clarinet playing girl. Her name was Lennie, and he'd smiled at that. A nick name formed in his mind and he somehow knew that the two would grow close enough that he would be able to use it. John Lennon he had called her in his head. Lennie had a sadness about her that Joe didn't understand, but he vowed to himself to find out. He was attracted to her instantly, which made him want to get as far away as possible. He'd had enough heartbreak. But when Lennie started to play, everything faded away, and he found himself playing too.
Lennie regarded the boy beside her as unearthly. No one in this world could possibly look that great and have his talent. She wanted to melt into a smile when he gave her a small smile. Hearing him play, she thought she'd die for sure. It had been a month since Bailey had died, and Lennie felt appalled at herself. How dare she have these feelings? How dare she think of anything but Bailey? Grams had made her come to her lesson today, somehow knowing that it was exactly what Lennie needed.
The music the two made sounded like raw emotions. It was sadness and heartbreak and sorrow. It was everything the two had felt in past few weeks.
It was everything they needed.
Time passed, neither sure of exactly how much. They had gotten lost in their music and somehow lost in each other. Eventually the music died, but their eyes were locked on each other's.
"Wow," Joe breathed after a long moment.
Lennie smiled. "I've enjoyed playing with you."
"We should do it again," Joe replied, hoping to hide his eagerness.
She nodded. They definitely need to do this again. Lennie hadn't felt this light in ages.
Marguerite returned, a smile etched on her face. Apparently she hadn't needed to lock the door. The two were too absorbed in each other to even notice her absence. She noticed the looks being exchanged between the two and decided that they should have another lesson together on Thursday, Joe's practice day. She had never seen either of them look so happy.
Yes, she decided. She had definitely made the right choice by introducing them.
