They found themselves alone in the elevator of the hotel, slowly making their way up to the floor on which their rooms were located. The grifter and the mastermind stood in a pleasant silence. She sighed and absentmindedly tossed her hair. At that some moment, Nate leaned in front of her and pressed a button on the control panel causing the elevator to stop. He moved back to the other side of the elevator and then turned slowly to look at her. He could see the confusion and the question in her eyes.

"So...you have told me your real name...and we're... um friends...". He had purposely made the word sound false, emphasizing the fact that friends didn't even begin to describe their long and tumultuous relationship. This was a effect was not lost on her, even if her mind was a little hazy from the alcohol. "Does that mean that you have uh forgiven me? Have I worked off the slap yet?" He was watching her, paying very close attention to every detail of how she looked. He wanted to remember the tilt of her face, the simple black dress that she made look absolutely amazing. He especially wanted to remember the look that he had a suspicion would cross briefly pass across her face in a few moments.

She waited a beat, her eyes bearing into him. "For such an intelligent man, you sure can be daft sometimes Nathan". She leaned back against the wall of the elevator; "I never could stay mad at you for long. In fact, I stopped being mad about the time we finished the job on that awful African official. I was angry" she said, emphasizing the last word. "More than anything else though, I was worried. About you...giving yourself up like that and being stuck in a prison of all places for several months. And..." she was going to continue, but decided against it at this particular moment.

Nate's eyes never left her, until then. He looked down at his hands. He was sorry that he had caused her pain, but... He took a deep breath in deciding to commit to the plan he had formed in his mind. He closed the space in between them and placed his hands on the wall she was leaning against, one arm on either side of her. "So you admit it" the sparkle of delight in his eyes was undeniable.

Sophie's mouth dropped open slightly as it dawned on her that he had known. Of course he had known; for how long he had known she couldn't be sure, but she was positive it couldn't have been too long. Then, being Nate, he had gone and set a trap for her. A trap which under normal circumstances she probably never would have fallen for. However, being slightly buzzed she had only too willingly allowed herself to be tricked by the brilliant man. Not wanting him to have the upper hand she grinned coyly, narrowing her eyes yet never looking away, "I admit nothing". Also, the fact that he had trapped her against the wall on which she was currently leaning did not escape her attention. It was almost all she was thinking about and not something which displeased her in the least.

Their faces were mere inches a part. The grifter's fiery brown eyes started into his brilliant cerulean ones. Neither looked away. The only sounds that could be heard were their steady breathes and their hearts thudding in time together. Funnily enough, at that exact instant in time, Nate and Sophie were having the very same thought; that at any moment the heart inside each of them which beating so hard and loud, were going to beat right on out of their chests.

Nate narrowed his eyes and gently placed his forehead on hers. "Tease"

"Thief". The word had hardly left her lips when she suddenly and quite acquiescently found them being captured by his.
