Awaken
"Wake up Drake, you're gonna miss the race." Yelled from outside my best friend Raymond who's letting me use his par Bridgette for the day since I don't have my own yet for some reason. I look down at my starbrand which is quite strange as it encompasses my whole left arm.
"Alright I'm coming." I groggily say as I wake up. Aside from the strange star brand I have the ability to ride other people's dragons. I glance at my mark as I get dressed and again ponder on its strangeness. Time to prove myself to that stuck up princess. Nobility or not I'll take her down for her rudeness the other day.
"Ready to win Drake? I'll let you use Bridgette." I smile at that. Always has my back when I need it. Even if he could get pretty creepy sometimes.
"Welcome everyone to Ansullivan's annual Dragon Riding Festival. And now a word from Princess Silvia Lautreamont."
"One must always do their utmost, no matter the contest or trial. That is my family motto, that is all." She said so straight and clear almost like a doll. That brought whispering from the other riders, some even comparing her to her traitorous older brother.
"That's cold they shouldn't compare her to him for something that happened a long time ago."
"Begin." Rebecca fired the starting gun and off we were. As we were racing around the town with some on land and some in the sky people were watching in awe.
As we pass under the bridge I see three students blocking the princess so she couldn't pass ahead of them. I decide to be a bit gentlemanly and ride up to them.
"Hey ladies." I say as they let me through and I ride right up to them.
"Wait a minute isn't he the problem child?" She freaks and loses control for a second and ends up slamming into the other two throwing them off balance.
"Sometimes it helps to have a reputation as the problem child." I see Lancelot fly further ahead and out of the tunnel. Not before denying that she was grateful for that but I could read her easily. "Let's go Bridgette."
"Sorry about that Bridgette I really shouldn't have pushed you so hard especially against a Maestro." It doesn't really matter anymore if I lose. I don't really care much at this point. "At least I was able to enjoy a good bout of competition for once, it was a lot of fun." I turn towards the forest as I hear a strange noise and order Bridgette to stay where she was and went to investigate.
I come upon some old wreckage. "What the heck is all this?"
"It's a Zepharos Empire Warship. They were used a lot during the last war." I look up to see a strange man in a black cloak and what looked like a mask with white hair and a red streak pointing a gun at me.
"Are you an imperial soldier?"
"Is that what you think. Tell me boy how old are you?"
"16. Why do you want to know?"
"Strange someone that age shouldn't have an immature dragon. Much less, no I must be imagining things."
"How did you know that. And what are you talking about?"
"I can see it because of the curse I bear."
"A curse." I jump out of the way as something lodges in the dirt where I was and a girl who looks like a ninja appears.
"Stay away from master Milgaus." I then run away as she starts chasing me.
"What the hell? Why are you doing this? The war is over."
"That may be so but there's still a cold war going on between the kingdom and the empire." She chases me towards the edge of the cliff and as I back up she tackles me and holds a knife to my head. But she hesitates and jumps back.
'What the? Why'd she do that she had the chance to kill me but didn't?' As she gets ready to strike again the part of the cliff she was standing on gives way and she falls. Deciding to be a hero again I grab her hand and use the momentum to throw her back on top of the edge but end up falling myself.
"So this is how it'll end. I won't ever be able to see my par just once." As I said that my arm starts glowing green and two gold orbs fly out from both ends. One right in front of my, I would look behind but I get so captivated by what I see from there. I expected to see a dragon but instead I see to my surprise a girl.
"Is she my par?" I take hold of her as her limp body floats, in a sense, down to me. Our decent slows and where I expected to land on the ground I suddenly stop. I look down and almost yell out in surprise. I was on what looked like a magic circle and see I'm on a dragon as big as Cu Chulainn maybe even bigger. It was completely golden. But it doesn't make sense even though it should be a baby dragon it's full born. But I guess it was growing as it was inside me. It'd make sense considering all the strangeness of those dreams involving Navi.
"Two pars. Oh my. Well then I think I'll call you Longinus. Let's get out of here." He roars as a response saying that he understood as I could feel our connection through the Astral Flow from me giving me his name.
As we fly out of the cliff the humanoid dragon in my arms wakes up yawning. As she wakes up she takes a second to realize the situation and starts to freak out then notices that I put my jacket on her.
"I thought it'd best to make sure you don't freak out on me when you woke up so I covered you up. Are you my par?"
"Of course I am you dope. Don't you know a dragon when you see one?"
"Guess so. I'm sure someone can explain this to me. Anyways you and the big guy here are my pars. Looks like the three of us have a strange relationship. We're one of a kind, I've never heard of a breeder having two pars before. But then again one of you is in human form so who knows."
"Drake!" I look up and see Rebecca and Silvia.
"What the hell? I thought that idiot didn't have a par. What is he riding?" Exclaims Anya not believing her eyes as well as Milgauss who was in silent disbelief.
"Drake what the hell is going on here? Why do you have a naked girl with you?"
"I'll explain when we get back." I command Longinus to quicken his pace back to the school before remembering to pick up Bridgette on the way.
"Unbelievable, the problem child has not one but two par."
"One's a maestro but the other looks like a human. This doesn't make any sense."
"Believe it you dumb smelly humans. I am a proud dragon and this is my servant. Ow." She exclaims as I karate chop her in the head for saying such a ridiculous. She's been like that since she arrived three days ago and it's getting on my nerves.
"Come on, we're going shopping. Be a good girl and I'll buy you a treat." That got her to quiet down and we went into town. Rebecca's words from this morning still in my head.
'The school has decided to send Dr. Cornwell to study your par so as to discover why she was born in human form. They didn't say when so be prepared when it does happen.'
"Hey you dog buy me one of these I want to try it." She points at a crepe shop and decide to humor her and buy her one.
"It's so delicious, from now on I'm going to eat only crepes." I smile at her childishness, then again she's only four days old.
"Hey what are you smiling at you dumb dog?" As usual she goes back into Yandere mode. "That's no way to treat, wait I still don't have a name."
Oh right in all the commotion I forget I only named Longinus. "Mph, how about Eco. That was the name of the first par so why not since you're so special."
"I accept." As I said that the same thing that happened with Longinus happened with the newly coined Eco. Then things started to get weird. "I feel so hot. My body is burning up I need you to quench it." As she said that I noticed people starting to gather around us.
"Cut it out Eco, what's wrong with you."
"Drake Lang, how dare you commit such shameful indecent acts like this in public. You are a representative of Ansullivan."
"This little concoction should get rid of most of the effects of the Anthar."
"How ridiculous, did you not learn anything in school? Giving her crepes made of Anthar. To a dragon it's like alcohol."
"Sorry it was an honest mistake really."
"To be fair the young mistress did the same with Lancelot when she was younger. Though this is fortuitous as she was hoping to meet up with you. In fact she's been looking all day."
"Shut up Cosette, anyways, I've been meaning to apologize for what I said the other day. I lost my temple and said things I shouldn't have and am sorry."
"It's alright princess I'm not mad anymore. Well then let's get going Eco. Thanks for your help the two of you." After waving goodbye the two of us headed off to see the other shops.
"What's taking Eco so long?" I say as I wait outside the bathroom for her and was starting to get a bit concerned as she'd been in there for quite some time now.
"Drake Lang how shameful. I admit I misjudged you at first but to do this type of thing you pervert."
"Wait you've got it all wrong, Eco went in there awhile ago and I was starting to get worried." I quickly say so as not to anger her. Understanding my concern she sends in Cosette and a minute later she comes out holding her hat. And also strange crystals which after a second I realize is Fafnirite.
"Eco's been taken."
