Jyou Kido bent down and looked his daughter Lilly directly in the face.
"You be a good girl for Mommy, understand?"
"Yes, Daddy."
Mimi and Lilly Kido were spending that Saturday together, doing 'girl things'. Jyou had been told, in no uncertain terms, that he was not to come with them for any reason at all.
Jyou stood up and embraced his wife. "I love you, flower girl. Have a good day."
"I love you too. We will."
"Good. Now, don't let me get in the way of your fun. Go! Go!"
And they went.

Jyou picked up the phone and said, "Can I help you?"
A deep, masculine voice answered. "Is this Jyou Kido?"
"Yesss...Why?"
"Sir, I'm Trooper Tlion of the Odaiba Highway Patrol. There was an accident involving a pink minivan registered to you."
"W-what happened?"
"Sir, I think you should come down to the station."

Tai walked over to the phone, waving at Sora to sit down. "Hello? This is Taichi Kamiya."
Jyou answered, his voice unnaturally strained.
"Hello, Tai. Good to hear from you. It's me, Jyou."
"Oh! Hi, Jyou. What's up?"
"Can you come down to the police station and give me a ride home?"

Sora heard Tai's car pull into the driveway and walked out to say hello to Jyou.
When she got there, she noticed both Jyou and Tai looked shocked, saddened.
"What's wrong?"
Jyou swallowed a few times, the words to the answer seeming to stick in his throat.
"Mimi...Lilly...they're...they're dead."
~*~
It had been two weeks since the accident had claimed Jyou's entire family. One week since the funereal.
He had made his peace with the rest of the world. He spent much of his time wandering around his house, talking to Mimi.
"I miss you, flower girl...I miss you, little water Lilly..."
Eventually, he decided something. "I-I've come to a decision, Flower Girl...Death took you away from me...So it's up to Death to take me back to you..."
To all my friends--
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry this is the only way to solve my problems...
I'm sorry for the pain I'm causing you...
But it doesn't matter to me anymore...
I could have carried on if I hadn't lost both of them...
But I have lost them.
I can't spend another moment without them.
Just...remember me.
And remember this:
Time and Death are the greatest enemies humankind has...
And the only thing we have to fight them with is...Love.
Goodbye.
~~~Jyou Kido.
They found him two days later. Next to his inert form were two empty bottles. One of wine, the other of sleeping pills. They buried him in the same plot as Mimi, knowing that they shouldn't be separated, even in death.
A/N- There. All done. I'm really, really depressed. That's why I wrote this. You want to know why? Someone close to me is dying. By the time this is uploaded, they'll already be dead. The most fitting epitaph I could think of was this. One work, conceived in the sorrow of loss, forever dedicated to the loved ones everyone eventually loses. But why does it always have to be so painful? I have to go cry for a while.
