This story does not follow the plotline of TVD. Elena, Damon, Stefan, and all of their friends are in their senior year of high school. Damon and Stefan are still vampires. Stefan was turned when he was seventeen, by a random vampire in the middle of the night. Damon was turned by his brother when he was eighteen, after a fatal car accident. Caroline and Elena aren't vampires yet. Bonnie is still a witch. This is a Delena fanfiction.
"Morning, sleepyhead," Elena heard a silky voice drawl.
"Get out of my bed, Damon,"
She heard the bedsprings creak as he moved closer to her. "What a warm welcome,"
Elena fluttered open her eyes, peeking up at her best friend. She pushed him off the bed with a grin.
"Ow!" Damon complained.
"Suck it up. You're a vampire," Elena got out of bed. She knew fully well that he had let her push him. Yawning, she ruffled through her closet, looking for clothes for the day.
Damon was already dressed, in his classic black tee and jeans. He stood next to her and pulled out a sheer, white dress. "How about this one?" He asked, smirking.
Elena slapped him, giggling. "Honestly, Damon, stop it!" She snatched the dress away and threw it into the depths of her closet.
Anyone peeking through the window would automatically assume that they were a couple. The comfortable touching and what seemed like not so subtle flirting was pretty obvious. But Elena and Damon were just friends. Best friends.
In kindergarten, Elena had arrived at school and immediately noticed the Salvatore twins. One dark, mysterious twin that leaned against the wall at recess and wouldn't talk to anyone. And one twin full of light and wonder, the complete opposite. Little and fearless, Elena had marched up to Damon during recess and bluntly asked him why he was alone.
Stefan joined their group sometimes, but most of the time he was off running and laughing with his other friends. Elena and Damon were surprisingly the best of friends. They laughed and played and talked and talked and talked. Through all of elementary, middle, and now high school, they remained best friends.
They were so comfortable together that they would have sleepovers and overnight camping trips together. People who had known them for a while didn't think anything of it; Damon and Elena were inseparable, and that was a fact. They had never felt anything more than friendship towards each other, each of them finding their own separate lovers. Elena was currently dating Stefan, going on strong for three years. And Damon was flitting between many girls, not ready to commit yet.
Elena finally picked out a simple shirt and shorts. She started to get dressed. They had been friends for thirteen or so years, and by then, had seen everything. It didn't really matter.
"What's for breakfast?" Damon asked, lounging on Elena's bed.
"Why do you think we're feeding you?" She teased, pulling on her shirt and running a brush through her hair.
"I guess I could always go to the bar and find some unsuspecting human girl..." Damon mused. Elena rolled her eyes and threw her hairbrush at him.
"You know how much I hate it when you kill people,"
Damon raised his eyebrows, the picture of innocence. "I don't kill people, Lena. I leave them with enough blood to survive. My brother, on the other hand..."
"Has not gone on a rampage in three months," Elena finished. "And I plan to keep it that way."
"Good luck with that," Damon snorted.
Elena put down her mascara, frowning at Damon. "He just has some control issues, that's all. He can't be the only vampire in all of existence with that problem,"
"Mhm." Damon stood up and walked over to her makeup table, nudging her with his knee. "Scoot,"
Elena shifted over on the seat, brushing on some bronzer and blush. She handed Damon her contact case. "Help me with these, will you?" Elena could never put her contacts in herself for some reason. She was paranoid about putting her own finger in her eyes, thinking that she was going to jab herself or go blind or something. This irrational fear made her ask Damon to do it all the time.
Damon unscrewed the lids with ease, only using his fingertips. "Show off," Elena muttered under her breath.
"Vamp hearing," Damon cocked his head and grinned at her. "Remember?"
"How could I forget,"
Elena held open her eyes as Damon carefully slipped the contacts into them. She blinked, adjusting, and got up. "Thanks."
"Repay me with some of your mom's amazing bacon and I might consider doing it again,"
Elena shoved him on the way out. "Come on, greedy," She laughed.
"I'm not the one who can eat five plates of bacon," Damon teased as he shut the bedroom door behind them. They continued to jab at each other on the way down the stairs, following the delicious smell of Isobel's cooking.
"Good morning, darlings," Isobel called out, rustling around the kitchen. Jeremy was already seated, texting on his phone, with Alaric reading the newspaper next to him.
"Morning Mom," Elena took a seat.
"G'morning, Mrs. Gilbert," Damon said, politely. Elena's mother had become almost like his second mother after his parents died, and Damon loved and respected her a lot.
"Is there bacon?" Elena asked hungrily.
Isobel laughed. "What would you do if I said there wasn't?"
"Make Damon vamp to the store and buy me some,"
"Hey!" Damon protested as they all laughed.
Alaric poked his head up, grinning at them. "Or I could do it," Alaric was also a vampire, turned on the same night that Stefan was. When visiting Stefan in the hospital, Isobel had fallen in love with Ric. They got married a month later.
"Riding in the truck with us today?" Damon asked Jeremy after a couple plates had been polished off.
"Nah," Jeremy sent off another text. "I got swim practice after school. I'll take my car,"
"What about you guys?" Isobel called over her shoulder as she washed dishes. "Any plans tonight?"
Elena finished another plate. "Caroline and Bonnie are thinking of going prom shopping."
"Isn't prom in three months?" Damon asked, confused.
"Yeah, but by then there won't be any dresses left!" Elena explained. "Can you drive me? We're meeting at the mall at six,"
"Sure. Girls and their shopping, you know?"
Elena playfully shoved him as she got up and cleared the table. "We should hurry, or we'll be late."
"Have a good day!" Ric called out. Isobel echoed him and kissed Damon and Elena, Jeremy dodging her kiss. They grabbed their book bags and left.
Elena slid into the passenger seat of the truck. Jeremy had left faster, probably trying to find a decent parking spot at the school. The parking lot there was tiny, and many students had to abandon their vehicles a block or so away. "Let's hope this trash starts for once," She grumbled.
"Don't insult Betty!" Damon lovingly petted the wheel. "She's been through a lot, that's all."
"Hurry up and drive!"
"Okay, woman!"
In the next chapter, I'll try not to draw out the day as much. This just introduces you guys to their characters, and how their friendship works. There will be more love in the next chapter, but not Delena yet.
