Melissa's POV
Walking towards Valerie, the morning after Save the Citizen, I knew she wouldn't be happy to talk to me, but I had to.
I was hesitant at first, but I have to make peace, of a sorts, with her.
Thank god the only people she was with was her usual friends, minus that girl I was partnered with.
I don't like Tressa, there' something off about her.
"Um, Valerie?" I asked, stopping next to them.
She sighed and turned around. "Yes? What do you need?"
I shifted my weight from one foot to the other and back again.
"Um, I wanted to say sorry for yesterday. I found out last night at home how you feel about Cryos, particularly my dad."
She regarded me with a cold eye. Or a hot one. For a Pyro, I'm really not sure how to word that.
Zach put a hand up. "I'm confused."
Ethan spoke up. "Her father was called in to help Will's dad take down Dragon Tongue. Flash Freeze, her dad, a really strong Cryo, almost killed him. Usually, a Pyrokinetic will trump over a Cryokinitic, but a trap was used against him."
Warren cocked an eyebrow. "Describe."
"Well, Flash Freeze was set up in a building, where he dropped the temperature considerably. If I remember correctly, it was below ten degrees Celsius by the time Dragon Tongue arrived." He took a breath and continued.
"The Commander was running around, to lead Dragon Tongue in; he succeeded and when Dragon Tongue tried to use his powers, in a sub-zero environment, he was drained rather quickly. If was with another Pyro, he would have been fine. The only reason he wasn't killed was the Commander snapped a power-suppressant on him and he dragged out to recuperate and to be tried before court and a sentence determined. He got a total of four life sentences, with no chance of parole until the third life sentence."
I spoke up now. "I… I didn't even know that; all I knew is that my dad said you hated Cryos and him in particular."
Valerie looked slightly confused. "He never told you?"
I shook my head. "No, all he said, after he calmed down, was that you hated Cryos and him most of all."
"Um, calmed down?" Layla said.
I nodded. "He was rather angry when I came home covered in burns from head to toe, plus my clothes were destroyed. Most of all when he found out who did it."
"Yeah… Sorry about that. Kinda got carried away, like the fight against Will in the café about two and half months ago."
I waved my hand. "I understand, you played the roll well. I was in fact, worried you would drop me."
She placed her hands over her heart. "Would I do something that mean?" She asked in a sickly-sweet voice.
"Yes." Zach snapped.
She just laughed.
"Anyways, are we at a peace, of sorts?" I asked, fidgeting.
She shrugged. "Sure, why not?" She extended a hand.
I gripped her hand and shook it, wincing at the fiery heat rolling off Valerie and Warren. She winced at the cold coming off me.
I shook my head as I went around the corner, I thought about it. So strange. And way too warm near Warren and her.
A/N: There was really no point to this. I just felt like it.
More back story, I guess, really.
