I don't own Monk. If I did this is what might have happened to Trudy

She knew she was dying. She could hear noise all around her. The words sounded familiar to her but if anyone asked her if she understood what was going on she would have stared at them like they were crazy. She couldn't talk. She was slipping away fast.

She could see her husband. She could feel him taking her hand in his and holding it together tightly. She knew what he was doing. He was trying to keep her with him. He was trying to link himself with her so she couldn't go or so that she would take him.

The room began to fade. She could see a bright beautiful light. She knew that it was nothing to be afraid of. She wasn't afraid… and at the same time—she was. She was afraid for him.

She knew he depended on her. She knew that if she wasn't with him, his life was under _*_ like an undertow of the ocean. Losing her would be a death sentence for him. The light was warm and welcoming. She knew that if she went into the light she wouldn't have the pain and the recovery and she wouldn't be put… no she couldn't think like that.

He needed her. He needed to know what was going on too. Surly the time she spent in the hospital, recovering… that would count. They would get through this together. She felt an all too familiar feeling as they tried to get her heart going again.

Suddenly her heart monitor went back to normal. The beeping was steady. She opened her eyes. She blinked unable to talk because she had a breathing tube down her throat.

"Looks like we've got her back"

He was crying from relief. He knew she would be okay. He knew she would get through this. There were things that he didn't understand that later he would come to understand but it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was that she was going to be okay.

As she told him what had happened (after she had recovered) he listened intently. He could see the questions in her eyes.

"I will never lose you again," he said firmly, "like I almost lost you."

It took awhile but this whole situation was resolved. They never kept secrets from each other again.
