Regret
The cold marble floor made Harry shiver; his hands shook unsteadily as he used his last remaining strength to cast a patronus that blinded the halls of the ministry. The bright light dimmed as his power dwindled, he sighed in relief seeing his friends were alright. Most of them had sad expressions on their faces, their eyes set on Harry's battered body on the floor. Ron failed to pull back a dashing Hermione; she slid to Harry's side.
Her beautiful chocolate eyes who once shone like glittery stars were now filled with tears. She fiddled with his hair and repeated the words "Harry its okay." frantically. His body was weak from the previous battle, Dumbledore would have told him he was victorious but he faced the bitter taste of defeat a long time ago.
Back when his life was decided by a magical goblet, a tournament that was meant to be his doom caused a stir within Hermione. In the inside she believed that her worries for Harry were normal but to be sure she seeked the counsel of others. Each concluded that her feelings were leading towards a revelation of her true feelings. Hesitant at first she confronted Harry about everything, he gave no words until he was called away by Cedric.
She realized at that moment that there was nothing there for them. Resorted to burying her feelings deep inside, each moment together tortured her heart. Unbeknownst to her is that Dumbledore had told Harry to be cautious of any possible fragile connection. Harry feared the pain of losing Hermione, but the love he felt would have made it worse. He managed to push his feelings aside with determination to finish his birth promise to the wizarding world. Like Hermione, every moment together resurfaced the feelings which tore at him also.
None of that mattered now, he laid at the ministry with his bloody back against the marble floor. His head rested on Hermione's lap, breathing became staggered and weak. "Harry… don't try to… stay strong." His cheeks was moist with her tears, his voice was hoarse "Hermione… I…. Regret…" Confusion entered her mind, nothing mattered to him except this single moment with his last remaining strength he spoke "Not… Telling…. I… Love You." She gave him a smile, lowering herself to give him a soft kiss on the forehead. "I love you to Harry…." He smiled, eyes slowly closing shut as he allowed the light to engulf him.
Harry stood at the edge of the light, his parents and Sirius next to him. He looked onto Hermione planting lilies on his grave in Godric's Hollow. She spoke to no one except her parents after his passing, her heart still bled red. Taking her stand she walked her way back to the fixed Potter house in the winter sprinkle. Harry kept watch of her the entire way, waiting for the day he would be united with her.
