AN: Not really a songfic, but based on the song "Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog After the War" by Paul Simon. I'm probably desecrating the song by writing this but i felt inspired by it of sorts. I'm sure I switch tenses and it's not very good, but meh. Any and all reviews are appreciated. As always, belongs to David Shore, Katie Jacobs, etc. etc.
They were there, how they ended up at this point he'd never know, or for once in his life he was too absorbed in the big picture to remember the little details of what led them there. But maybe that was the point all along. Returning to the hotel suite, they unlocked the door. It was calm and felt as if it were the most natural thing in the world. After the years of yelling, screaming, power plays, staring and longing for each other, after the war within themselves they were there; for now and ever after that's all that mattered. The full moon shone in through the open balcony doors, casting a deep evening blue on the room. He glided them out on to the balcony and they were lost in one another. They swayed together to music which only they could hear, no awkward gait or misanthropic attitude, just them, together. Time passed and they were still embracing each other, clinging together so as to not let this one moment slip by them. Their cohesiveness, so unorthodox for them -so natural and calm. They drifted back into the room, easily losing their evening clothes, they danced by the light of the moon. A passionate embrace that had been yearned for and resisted for the last twenty years. The deep forbidden music they'd been longing for filled the room as they fell into one another in a myriad of complex emotions and rhythms.
Too quickly it ended, but time is cheap, even if they had all the time in the world, it would never be enough. Intertwining and combining they fell asleep. Drifting off into a deep and unbridled release into a world with no limits.
And this is how he imagines it would happen, maybe it is just a sweet fantasy dreamt up to calm his aching or a chimera meant to prod at his open wounds. Either way this is the story he made up about who is and this is what he has hidden away in the cabinet cold of his heart.
I can almost guarantee all of the good lines are taken directly from the song. Also for those that might not know chimera: a thing that is hoped or wished for but in fact is illusory or impossible to achieve. (though i don't think this would be impossible, well maybe as long as david shore is in charge it is).
also, i enjoy writing one shots and i'm not opposed to multi cap fics but just need some inspiration so if anyone wants to suggest a story idea or prompt that would be cool too.
