Sequal to Not Always the Hero... and It Was Inevitable and Unbearable...

Assassins and Mud

The Assassin did not enjoy this job, striking down two of the heroes of Olympus… This time… It was not a happy time for him. But when she demanded that it happened, well, he would have been a fool too refuse.

Gaea was not to be messed with, proven by giving Kronos his scythe in the first place, just to kill their father. But no, he may act like it, but Ares was no fool.

The other Olympians would understand… hopefully, when he told them of what now was waking up the Giants and herself, but he wasn't sure if Poseidon would understand, for the boy had the weight of the world on his shoulders, and he would have it a second time. The newest great prophecy would be destroyed, as two of the seven were now dead…

Ares was always happy to crush a few heroes under his feet, but now, when the world needed them, he had been forced to kill them or he would be cut like Oureanos, and cast into the sea with his grandfather.

'The world could spare a couple heroes for now…' Ares tried to reassure himself. 'But a god and the war god at that… No, the heroes will either go to Elysium or try for the Isles of the Blest… Either way, they might not be back… Oh, what have I done?'

The god of war burned the poisoned arrows that day, and all of his other weapons… for he had changed during that assassination, and he knew that he had ruined the fate of the world, for he could see in his mind's eye, the hero's final breaths, and the shrouds covering their poisoned bodies.

The war god faded that day. But all knew why. He had done a deed that was beyond cruel, and it had broken him. He told the council of the Olympians and was never seen again…

For as the first arrow was shot, Gaea had finally won.

A/N: So... What did you think? I know... don't tell me... Ares was out of character. But playing around in Rick Riordan's sandbox entitles me to be able to do that... Well, if my calculations are correct, you are crying, going back to read the first story first, or just aren't emotional enough to cry... Option four is impossible... I'VE SAID TOO MUCH!

Oh well, read, review, read Truth and Denile please...
