So this was an English assignment that I was given last year. The first two paragraphs aren't too funny; so don't give up on this until you've at least gotten halfway through the third. This is exactly what I turned in (minus one sentence that you would only get if you went to my school and were in my grade) and I got a 110 on it. Kudos to me for taking P-AP English II with the hardest teacher and turning this in and receiving that. I guess I was just born awesome. :P
Advertisements are a large part of society today. They influence people to buy things or do thing that they normally wouldn't buy or do. And on my journey to find 10-15 advertisements to study carefully and analyze, I came to the conclusion that most advertisements are geared towards teenage girls. This conclusion could quite possibly be inaccurate due to the fact that I really only had teenage girl magazines, but nonetheless, they (advertisements geared towards females between the ages of 13 and 18) seem to be prominent in our society anyway.
My first ad that I am going to evaluate and analyze will be one for shaving gels, creams, and razors. The top of the ad reads "He has three new reasons to touch your legs". I would imagine this being said in one of those sultry-type voices. It then shows a guy and a girl standing very close to each other. The girl is wearing an EXTREMELY short skirt and the guy is caressing her leg. Then at the bottom there is a very tiny picture of the three products that it is advertising. By using the picture mentioned above, this ad is trying to tell girls that if they use this product, they'll get good legs, be, attractive, AND get a boyfriend. Seem like a lot for a tiny razor. I feel cheated by the way this ad is portraying itself. Because if I were in fact to use this product, I would most definitely not earn a boyfriend from it. I think that this should be considered false advertising.
My next evaluation will be for an ad about deodorant. The ad depicts a thin blonde in a flowy yellow dress prancing through a forest surrounded by woodland creatures and flowers. Near the bottom in the middle is a small photo of the deodorant itself. "Secret: Scent Expressions" to be exact. So basically, this ad is screaming "IF YOU USE THIS DEODERANT YOU'LL BECOME A DISNEY PRINCESS." At least that's what I got from it. I also feel like this is false advertisement because no one will magically apparate (HARRY POTTER WORD) into a happy forest and break into song. No one.
The last ad that I will analyze will actually be one that is not meant for girls with raging hormones. The picture is of a cat, eating out of an "Iams" food bowl. The cat looks content, and its tail is in the shape of a heart. I would guess that this is geared towards cat lovers, but I could be wrong. But I find this ad to be inaccurate. For one, cat tails don't bend that way. They just don't. And two, it would be completely impossible for a cat to be happy or compassionate towards a human being because CATS HAVE NO SOULS. That's why they have to sneak up on you at night while you are sleeping and suck your soul right out of you.
At least that's what my dad tells me.
So on my adventure I realized that most propaganda is false, and that they are only trying to make you believe something that isn't true just so you'll buy their product. The end.
