Chapter 1
The smell of burned flesh fills my nose as I realize I'm trapped in my vehicle and i'm totally screwed. I feel the flames lapping at my skin as the plastic handcuffs melt and I try to get my seat belt off but It doesn't work. I hear sirens in the distance and I know that someone somewhere saw what happened and called for help. I hear the vehicles pull to a stop and people get out and approach the vehicle. Someone taps on the window, "Sir, we're going to get you out of here alright"i hear the voice say, "yeah, god ow"I murmur. I hear the door being opened and they put a blanket over me before breaking the windshield to get me out. "Honey,what's your name"a female medic asks,"Jordan Parrish"I murmur flinching in pain, "ok Jordan, take it easy, we're getting you out right now"she says. I feel them cut my seat belt and they maneuver me so they can get me on a stretcher and they do so and it hurts. Then they transfer me to a gurney and I hear them whisper as they realize I'm one of their own, "god he's a deputy, we need to let them know"I hear her whisper to one of them, "shh I know let's just get him taken care of"the other medic replies.
They put me in the ambulance as I catch a slight glimpse of Lydia being held back by police and then they close the doors. We take off as I feel them put an oxygen mask over my mouth and nose, then turn me on my side as they cut my clothes off. "oh god, ow,it hurts"I say groaning, "shh honey I know, breathe, that's it we're almost done"she says putting a hand on my side. They finish up but keep me on my side to check for other injuries. "look at this"she says quietly putting a hand against my back, "it's peeling"the other voice says. After this we pull to a stop and the doors open as they take me out into the cool night air and a few nurses and a doctor approach me. The only real thing I'm aware of is the pain and after a minute I realize I'm groaning, and a nurse squeezes my hand. "shh Jordan honey breathe, I know it hurts but we'll take good care of you"she says. They then take me inside and move me to another bed, where they cover me with the blanket up to my hips, and a nurse gently grabs my arm. She has a needle in her hand and she very gently finds a vein and puts in the iv. It's giving me pain medicine I guess because I get sleepier and sleepier until I know no more.
