Kanade's Swan Song

Everyone had their own swan song and Tsubasa knew that, but that didn't stop her from humming Kanade's to herself those lonely days that followed. In a way that was Kanade's last song: a song that didn't suit the result in the least – but they never did.

The people who came to see their concert… they probably never imagined what music meant to the ones who sung for them. Battle. Experimentation. Death. And the swan song most of all. And she was one of the few who heard Kanade's that fateful night, that fateful concert. She was the only one who remembered it.

It'd burned itself into her mind: that melody, that tearful smile, that dying voice, the weight disappearing from her arms but leaving something even heavier behind. And she remembered it. She mourned it. She sung it to herself because it was Kanade's: her death, her wish –

And because it was Kanade's swan song and not hers, for that wish as well.
