"Here we are!" Ash called gleefully. "Snowpoint city, where I-"
"-valiantly won your seventh Sinnoh league badge," Misty finished, rolling her eyes. "Honestly, that's all you've been talking about since we left Pallet town!"
"It is not!" Ash protested. "I've also talked about how Brock saw Uxie's reflection at Lake Acuity."
"Some romantic vacation," Misty sighed. "All you remember is Brock seeing a legendary being and your gym battle! I'm starting to wonder why you even brought me here at all, if all you're gonna do is-"
"Shh." Ash held up a hand to silence her as they stepped into the clearing. "Okay, now just close your eyes and wait here a minute."
"Ash, this is ridiculous," Misty said, but did as he told her to anyway. It seemed like ages until he finally told her to open her eyes...and almost instantly her irritation melted away. "Ash..."
He'd set up a tent just like the ones they'd used to sleep in during their travels, made a campfire and now he was unpacking a picnic basket.
"Happy anniversary, Misty." He winked, coming back to her side. "Don't tell me you forgot!"
"I didn't, but I was so sure iyou/i had." She laughed, throwing her arms around him. "Just when I think I've got you all figured out, you go do something like this."
"What can I say, I live for the element of surprise." He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer. "Love you."
"I love you too. Happy anniversary," she murmured, and their lips came together in a warm kiss.
