Silent Torture

Yami sat at the window before him, watching as the rain pelted the earth with gray colored clouds in the dark skies, making the room nearly as cold as outside and doing nothing to warm his now icy heart. Indeed, the weather and house seemed to mirror his heart at this moment, as dark and cold as the once lively and warm organ once was.

That had all shattered however exactly three years to the day when he and his hikari had broken apart, rumors started by a busy body after him splitting them apart and shattering Yami's world and incasing his heart in ice which slowly took over his very soul just before an image of the petite tan teen with his bright violet eyes and beaming warm and bright smile filtered into his mind and caused the shadowed organ to twist painfully in his chest.

"Yugi..." he whispered brokenly, surprised when the name left his lips.

His shocked features turned angry then as he softly cursed and looked away from the window, moodily standing and leaving the room to return to his study. He would do what he always did in these situations, get engrossed into his work, surely there had to be something he hadn't done yet, being the co-founder and CEO of his twin brother's company there was always work waiting to be done...

But even that didn't make the icy cold grip on his heart loosen and his mind inadvertantly took him right back to the hikari he so loved and missed, he should have known as much. Yugi was his whole world now just the same as he had been in high school when they first met that fateful day of Yami's first day as a transfer student. He couldn't get him out of his head, it was impossible, always was, always would be especially at this time of year...

And oh how he wanted those pleasant memories back to and to make more, but the small teen had made it no secret he wanted nothing to do with him after the rumor was spread that he was cheating on him. Gods how he hated Anzu even now for spreading such a lie! He loved Yugi! Still loved him! And Anzu had torn his heart to shreds by spreading that lie and all so she could get her greedy and lusty hands on him in spite of the fact that he had told her again and again that he didn't see her, or like women in such a way.

And now as he sat in his study, the rain shower becoming a thunderstorm, he found himself looking at the phone and debating just as he always did this time of year whether or not he should call. It had been three years, they'd both matured he was sure, and Yugi may have found out that he never cheated on him...but what if he hadn't? What if him calling would only hurt and anger his hikari even more?

He wouldn't put Yugi or himself through that...he just couldn't he would rather suffer as he did now not knowing than hurt his love even in the smallest way. Yugi may have moved on too...found another who he gave his heart to, gone to college like he'd talked about, traveled to Egypt like he had been dreaming of...maybe even got married and had a family started or little ones on the way.

He wouldn't ruin that.

He would just continue to do as he always did at this time of year, do his work like a good co-founder should and suffer in silence.
