effete, adj. - lacking in wholesome vigor; degenerate; decadent;
exhausted of vigor or energy; worn out. . .

When she got there, she was amazed.
How could such a fine, upstanding school have gotten so effete?
What had once been so vibrant, so full of color and order, was now
dull; once proudly-upheld standards had fallen completely to the
wayside.
{ Old man Dumbledore had really let this place go. }

She was doing good for the school, she really was.
Cleaning up decades' worth of filth.
{ The students absolutely hated it; it gave her a r u s h because }

If they, the conniving little insects that overran this place, thought
she was doing wrong, then it was clearly the opposite in a logical
mindset.
{ Logic was always her strong point, she thinks }

But of course, she should have expected a fight.
It began with names
{ Umbitch, Umbitch }

And quickly escalated into pranks;
Those Weasley boys especially were no picnic to handle.
{ Blood Quills - such a useful invention }

Causing others pain isn't necessarily fun, she lies to herself,
It's just a simple way to get the desired effect.
{ Fear. Fear and a twisted kind of respect. }

That Granger girl, she ruined everything.
Muggleborns are not meant to mesh with a Pureblood society!
{ It just won't do, it's improper! }

And just when she's once again happy,
Right when she has her nice job at the Ministry back, instead of
watching over those little brats -
{ It's all r i p p e d away; with Voldemort gone, Muggleborn tolerance is at its peak, and . . . }

"Dolores Jane Umbridge, you are sentenced to a lifetime in Azkaban for
your horrendously cruel crimes against Muggleborns!"
says the judge, and she replies the only thought in her mind:
{ "What crimes?" }

They lock her in Azkaban, throw away the key,
And she wishes back for Hogwarts, where it was she causing the
suffering.
{ Ah well, she reasons. It can't be that bad. }

Then she discovers the dirt, the muck, the dust and the grime that mars
her pretty, pink world, and transforms it into a grey void with no
discernable end in sight...

{ And then oh yes, she thinks, it is. }
